A set of filters (hi/lo/band) with envelope, a vol envelope, and an overdrive or bit reduction and I'd be set. Probably a bit much to ask though.

I personally hope Jules is focusing on other things than the sampler. Of course I wouldnt mind it if there was some improvements like envelopes and filters. But for anything more complex I already VST samplers ready to go. Plus I have EXT and you know Jorgen is :D. EXT's sampler should improve at a ridiculus rate.

EXT doesn't solve any mac users problems. Jorgen seems unaware of the platform. Likewise, many 3rd party effects and plugs that pc users depend on are not available for the mac.

We depend on Jules to integrate the more useful ones into Tracktion if mac users are to enjoy these features.

I'm in the same very pretty but still strangely lacking Mac boat. I need a better sampler in Tracktion, and I need a better way to input drum parts quickly. VSTs are one solution, but by the time you spend the cash on a good sampling module and something with a step sequencer your cost really starts to climb.

If I wanted my host to provide all my instruments for me I would have gotten a virtual studio (Reason, Orion, FL). I think any instrument in Tracktion is a huge bonus but should be low priority compared to the sequencer itself. Theres way too many freebies and cheap alternatives out there already. It would be redundant and slows down development of more important features.

Also, all the major samplers are cross platform. Mach-5 even came out for the Mac months before it did for the PC. So there ARE options. You guys dont depend on Jules for plug-ins.

Maybe if the boat wasnt so pretty you would have some money left to spend on decent plug-ins. My boat is very ugly, but I have Kontakt for a sampler. :ud:

I guess that no-one ever forced you to buy a mac

No not exclusively, but we do need to rely on somebody. I don't use alot of the all-in-one apps cause I still do alot of work playing MIDI into my sequencer, and I need more of a multitrack environment to work in for live recordings. As far as 3rd party samplers go, I know there are a ton out there, the only point I was trying to make is that it's ridiculous to pay 3x more for your VSTi than it is to pay for your host. As far as cheap (and well developed) alternatives go, I haven't found too many for OS X. In the end, it just comes down to using a platform that lacks the development and support. Not trying to get down on anybody, just reflecting on how nice it would be to keep my cheap alternative MIDI solution cheap, and alternative.

I payed over 500bux for Cubase VST. Then $150 for the SX upgrade. Kompakt costs less than 200. So in this case its not 3 times but more like 1/3 the price of the host.

You gotta keep in mind Tracktion was 80 dollars before you go adding up your VST costs.

True, but it's exactly the low cost of Tracktion that keeps me from buying most plug-ins. I have the same sense of 'justice'. If I'm going to splash out that kind of money, I'd rather just buy another copy of Tracktion and give it to a friend.

I can't bring myself to buy most $100+ plug-ins because it feels so... I dunno... unfair... to do so after getting Tracktion and eXT. :D

So, I live in freeware world for the most part. :D Wusikstation is too much of a bargain to pass up on, and the Kjaerhus group buy is making it an option. Certain Voxengo plug-ins have grabbed my attention, but for the most part I blanch when I see the prices of some plug-ins.

Back to the topic at hand (sorry for the ramble)-- I'm not saying that I therefore want T to include a sampler. I've never used T's sampler, and I won't miss it if it's gone completely. I don't need an update, and I would much rather see the time and energy being spent on the sequencer itself.

1. Trcktion is a great deal at $80.00, asking for more extras because you don't want to spend any money is bad form. Don't look a gift horse etc

2. Computer Music DS404 sampler works in Tracktion on OSX. It'll cost you the price of the mag so it meets your price  The only downside is it's a bit ugly

3. I think I'm going to buy eXT tonight just because it looks and seems so damn cool and I want to support the developer :D

how about on PC? I have it, and unfortunately, the function keys that drive DS404 are the same that do other stuff in Tracktion.

even with the DS404 window open in the bottom of the screen, hitting the function keys to load other samples in DS404, well, it causes Tracktion to do something else.

Maybe I'm missing something on how to get DS404 to work, but so far, no luck for me - just the default sample set that was loaded the last time I loaded it in Cmuzys.

Also, to you guys who said DFD mode with SFZ would work - maybe for rendering, but on my system using it causes unacceptable latency between input on the midi keyboard and output with the NS piano sf2. Guessing at least 250 mS if not more.

I have always used the mouse with the DS404, I don't actully think that the Function keys on the keyboard are meant to control it... that's what I mean about ugly :?

If you go to www.computermusic.co.uk they have a guide on using the DS404 that should get you going. It does have some power under the hood, they just scrimpt on the gui to get it out. :x :?

The F1-F4 function keys on the DS404 actually have nothing to do with the F1-F4 keys on your computer keyboard. You have to actually click the buttons on the 404 interface. I always thought it was pretty silly to name them F1, F2, F3 and F4, for obvious reasons. :?

Hey, rock star_not, there must be something wrong on your end with sfz.

I use DFD mode all the time including playing 2-300mb fonts at 15ms with no problem.

There must be something wrong with your setup.
