So the Pro licence is now yearly if you want to stay up to date.
Essentially, they've doubled the price of perpetual over a two year period.
Version 7 better be life changing, lol.

Nice! I’ll have to check again to see if they finally get the Linux version working. Version 6 was unusable—too many bugs and instabilities. I’m patient however, and I’m glad that they are working to support Linux!

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Ah! That’s how Bitwig does it, isn’t it?wayford wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 4:30 pm Studio One Pro 7 will be released on October 9th, 2024.
Prime & Artist editions are dropped, only Pro stays going forward.
New licenses will offer support for 1 year of updates. Afterwards you can keep on using your perpetual license forever.
Includes all paid instruments and effects, including Lead Architect (previously only available in Studio One +).
$199 - Regular, $149 - Upgrade.

Yeah, seems that way. However, I don’t think it will be any different for me in practice. Typically I’ve upgraded about a year after the new version, when it’s on sale. So if I upgrade every 2 years now, I will still go a year without the latest updates, and then be up to date for the next year. Hopefully they’ll still have sales where you can upgrade for around $110.J Veronica wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 6:17 pm So the Pro licence is now yearly if you want to stay up to date.

Bitwig spices up their upgrade offers every so often. This Friday, for example, will be particularly spicy...

I had a feeling they would drop Artist when they stopped Upgrade pricing for itaudiojunkie wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 6:24 pmAh! That’s how Bitwig does it, isn’t it?wayford wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 4:30 pm Studio One Pro 7 will be released on October 9th, 2024.

I got a good price for the + Hybrid so I will still get V7 since I have almost a year left
Yes it is the same way Bitwig does it but they are half the price of a Studio one upgrade if you buy the the bitwig upgrade during the summer sale.
My Bitwig Producer license is Valid until 26.January 2028 and I payed $177

That's a good point, I hadn't thought about sales. No need to upgrade right away as you said.jamcat wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 6:38 pmYeah, seems that way. Agreed. They never learn. People want faster, easier, less steps, customizations. Not stock instruments and effects. I mean, those things are a bonus, but the core stuff should be total UI changes, and functionality for improvement and speedtrusampler wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 6:10 pmlolnot sure what that deep flight thing is, but most of us, aren’t buying daws for their instruments,fx, nor content! They don’t seem to get it. They’re not competing against the real talent in our industry. True Instrument and FX developers.

Hey, speak for yourselves, guys! I'm not upgrading unless they include at least 184GB of sample content that I'll never use.vertibration wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:10 pmAgreed. They never learn. I've had the Pro versions in the past , but last time I purchased I got a 2nd hand V6 artist license . It's a really good host it'll be interesting to see what they do with 7 . Edit ... I just realized NO more artist version after watching YouTube , I wonder what BONES is thinking ?

Funny they would talk only about licensing changes and not new features in the intro to v7. If they had any killer features to highlight, surely they would have mentioned them, right? I even went to check their channel to see if maybe those were covered in a different video. Nope.
What happens if you upgrade 11 months before the next major release, would the upgrade be included in your year? They made no distinction between major releases and the one-year policy, so I assume yes.
I agree with the sentiment that core DAW features are what sell DAWs not more instruments or effects bundled. Most Studio One effects are subpar in my experience. I may be getting on the three year upgrade plan. Wait until late in the cycle, upgrade, get two major releases, then skip the next. Rinse and repeat.

I see that too. Also looks like maybe a sampler track is coming too. Really hope they have implemented Automation clips too.

Yeah, I think that's how I'll work it too. I may go three years though.jamcat wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 6:38 pmYeah, seems that way. However, I don’t think it will be any different for me in practice. So the hybrid subscription is now the “Pro” version? What a shocker.
