Waveform 13 unable to write automation during playback

Did you guys set the automation mode for the track to either "Write", "Touch" or "Latch" ?

It works here with Tracktion free version 13.5.19 on Windows 11 (with midi & audio expansions, but it should not make a difference).

Automation mode is missing from my free version of 13.5.19
I dont have any expansions.
So no write, latch or touch.

So that must be the difference.
Can only guess its been removed from the standalone free version.
Still waiting on support.

Although I think its not actually a thing in the free version without expansions or going to Pro version and the info given to me by their own BOT is incorrect.

I'm also using Waveform Free v.13.5.19 on Windows 11 and haven't automation options.
And still no answer from support.

Just checked in 13 5 8 and its not working.
Uodated to latest version and not working there either.
So have also emailed support.
That 3 emails.
Will be interested to hear what the response will be.
Please report back here once you here back as I will once they get back to me.

Here are the steps for sending us a log file:
1. Go to Settings on the top of the Waveform screen.
2. Click Maintenance on the left hand side.
3. Click the button at the bottom called "Show the Log File"
4. Attach that file to your response to us, no need to open it or copy the contents.

Anyway, I will do it later.

Yes just checked and had the same.
Something else I noticed whilst trying to get automation to work I was using their own Attracktive synth none of the selected parameters matched ie. Cutoff automated velocity rather than cutoff and other odd behaviour.

I still hope this is a bug and not a limitation of the Free version. On the other hand, 13.5 Free has been released some time ago... hasn't anyone really tried recording automation yet?

Being honest. I downloaded the free version some time ago. WF 12.
As a pre curser to buying Pro.
Up untill WF13 i was all set to purchase but the bugs and crashing put me off.

I fired up WF to test out this automation as I remember it being a thing in WF 12 also.


I have for a few weeks mostly messing with a Ableton demo after getting Ableton lite bundled with a new Interface and think that is more than likely going to be what I am going to invest in as so far its been solid.
Its a shame as WF promised so much and I do enjoy its workflow but it just has so many things that fail to work as it should for myself to invest money on it.

hey they just replied and they fixed it! he said the automation modes didn't make it into the free version last time. so he sent me an updated version and i tried it and it's working again! he said he will release it this week. heres the link if you would like to try it:

don't forget to select the automation mode from the A icon on the track

I only ask as I havnt updated yet to see
And I recieved a email from support that states it is not available in the Free version and would check to see if I needed expasion packs?
As below.

"Those more advanced functions are not in the free version. I’ll have to check with the dev team to see whether they are packaged in any of the expansions. I’ll let you know.

The version linked above is 13.5.21, which is now the current version available on the website and in the download manager. The person who posted the link said that it restored the functionality. I don't use the free version, so I can't tell you for sure but it looks to me like your question has already been answered.

My guess is that the support person didn't actually know about that specific feature and assumed incorrectly that it wasn't supposed to be a part of the free version.

I guess my question was answered.
The reason for my post was I recieved the email from support way after the post was made so was a bit confused.

I have not updated for a couple of reasons.

First I had been testing out Ableton so WF has taken a bit of a back seat.

Secondly and more importantly I recieved a Scarlet 16i16 for xmas so have pulled my studio apart to improve the layout and run the cables to incorparate my Technic turntables and pioneer controller into it as I now have enough inputs to do so..
So what with doing that and downloading new drivers and free stuff from focusrite not had time to play with WF.
