What with posts on sites I follow, emails, social media, ads, and forums like KVR, I see dozens (or more) of choices for new or sale plugins every day. I don't mind that someone shared some of their strategies to weed through the pile of choices. Of course, I could just buy everything. That would solve the problem, right?

After I bought lots of orchestral stuff in 2024, and 2025, I‘m not buying any further orchestras.
I have a fair collection from VSL, EW, and Musio. Better than fair, really.
I bought EW Hollywood and Fantasy Orchestras in May. Figured I may as well own them than rent them via CC+.
Not buying any guitars this year. Bought a PRS SE DGT beginning of November. I have, I think, 16 guitars and 2 basses. Enough.
Don‘t need any FX.
The only purchase on my horizon is Omnisphere 3, via upgrade price.

One synth/product for over $60.

With Cherry audio bundles so cheap, that gives me a lot to play with sounds-wise when they are available. I can do heavy sound design in Dune, Current, Pigments or Halion. That's already a lot of "supersynths" to own. I don't own the others. Not interested in the price of admission for the experience.

That knocks out a large amount of synths. The only reason it's $60 and not $50 is that Xils go on sale for $60. That's a great price. Still a lot. Cherry is just so cheap for what you get. $25 for humble bundle that comes with 4 of their synths. Other deals I've seen where you can get 3-4 synths for $50. High quality. Not just emus. The bar is raised for value per fiat unit of account. The rest you're "buying the experience" or a variation in sound. This will be my rule of thumb for the rest of the year.. 'Til Black Friday of course...

So today for lunch i hate spaghetti with meatballs, later on a small slice of panettone (because why not)? And now for dinner i had chicken salad.

This is my list of today

I will post tomorrow what i ate, most likely chicken for lunch and sushi for dinner.

I've found too much coffee and oatmeal in the morning makes the bathroom duties smell like a Barnes and Noble. :hihi:

And I rather think this "list" is a great thought experiment that the wise will undertake. While I try to not make declaratives of "will not" or "never", I do have a list of things I avoid as if it were a chronic disease. (Mostly companies.)
All it takes is a no brainer price on plugins in already acceptable accounts I currently own to add to it. Even drum machines I might rarely use.

Wrong. Two basses is not enough. While I technically own four basses I only have two in my possession and it chafes like a stone in my shoe.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Thanks for the comment; imagine the output if you hadn't stumbled on to KVR, wandered into this thread and took the time to make this comment. What a remarkably empty post to fill the time and try to make your opinion, which you're obviously allowed to share, sound important...

Be sure to let us know when you start your "I just took a dump" or "I had breakfast" lists too.
Great idea, us older guys could only participate in the "I just took a dump" thread a few times a week, unless we have high fiber foods in the "I just had breakfast" list

Just make a list with lists you don't want to list.

It's democracy - everyone can have a list.

And everyone is allowed an opinion, your pointless list is not going to stop other members on here from wanting the instruments you have listed

Thank you for all the feedbacks!
It's amazing that you all speak so positively about this topic.
You are a very cool community.
It encourages me to continue this topic indefinitely and beyond!

The first update to my list:
No to:
Reason Rack as a PLUGIN.

yEAH, You heard it correctly - this is a new option, you can buy the "RACK" as a plugin and can use in your DAW.
As a one time purchase it costs 199 Eur.
It contains all the instruments + effects + etc.
If you install it with all the content(+ samples etc) it requires almost 30GB space.
Those who remembers the Rebirth software with nostalgic memories, this Reason offer can be shockingly attractive !!!

So Why saying NO?
I will share just one reason why:
There's a crazy ol' man (in the positive meaning) who already made similar stuff to combine/layer all your plugins and effects. Yes, this is UNIFY. So because I have Unify, I don't need another "rack style stuff". And AFAIK Reason Rack Plugin
can't load VSTi plugins - it only can load them if the plugin has a "rack extension" version.(CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG)
And of Course I really don't need ~70 more instruments and effects.

BUT for those, who don't have Unify and/or need more 'curated' instruments and effects, this can be a good solution.

Just a random video about this Rack plugin :

Having recently switched my whole production set IP to Linux, I think the answer has to be "no more Windows/Mac-only plugins".

The ones I have largely work well enough, and if developers won't support Linux I really shouldn't be dropping cash on products that dont run natively on my OS

Just when you think there couldn't be a more pointless list to produce, KVR comes up trumps.
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

I have an enormous list of things I'm not going to buy. Strangely, none of them are synths. If you think about that hard enough...that means I'm going to have to buy every synth. I wish it weren't so because I really don't want to.

The main reason I use Reason Rack are some unique instruments like Friktion or Objekt, though they cost extra...
The main reason why I don’t do an upgrade is, it would give me one additional instrument which isn’t interesting at all. I’ll wait for 14 or 15…
I hope a coming version will support MPE and will have a better way to support off-line authorization…
I do welcome the new strategy. It will drive more people to Reason…
I have something better than Unify, and that is my DAW Bitwig, it covers all that Unify gives to users of less capable DAWs…
In short: no to Unify…
