ZEBRA 3: "Player" Version

I'm not a sound designer. But reading everything, my opinion is that I prefer the full product. There's nothing worse than buying a player then wanting to tweak a sound!
I always go through presets, find something I like then tweak to taste. The trouble with a player version is that you can't do that!

Great, thanks for that.kalqlate wrote: Fri Mar 13, 2026 12:13 am With respect to U-he's wishes, this will be the only reply to all of the above, or any subsequent posts by others, I will engage with. You are free to consider it however you please.
"Goal for everyone? You're sure? Actually, not sure how our "goal" relates to U-he but...Once again, your idea (and googly AI, which by scraping the internet often seems to me to be the lowest common denominator) "idea" is not necessarily U-hes idea of success. I can't and don't speak for U-he but since you said "everybody" i'm included- perhaps Uhes and my (and maybe others') goal for Zebra is that it's the most flexible, innovative, and creativity inspiring tool for making sound and music?I'm sure the goal for everyone is that Zebra 3 live its best life, in whatever form that comes, and that U-he earn the accolades and success their insightfulness, inventiveness, and hard work deserve.
Once again too, that sentence reads like pure marketspeak to me. Just imo of course.
There is that leap to the conclusion that "overwhelming success" equates with "finds it's way into the hands of as many as possible."...
Therefore, the suggestions in my original comment were not for my sake, but - with empathy for others and a desire that U-he meet with deserved overwhelming success - that this decades-in-the-making product finds its way into the hands of as many as possible.
Appreciate the empathy, though, as i'm in the boat of struggling with purchasing new virtual synthesizers. Perhaps Madrona Labs should make a preset only version of the monster Sumu so i can purchase it but never be able to use it as creatively and
inspiringly* as it is intended? NOT, i can save up.
Way to subtlety imply that we are a bunch of opinionated jerks and know nothing of "academic and industry research" or marketing for that matter.Secondly, for those who are amenable to academic and industry research rather than opinion, here is a bit of investigation on the research pertinent to this topic by Gemini Pro via Google AI Mode in response to the following query:
And Once again, i am so sincerely interested in what googlys LLM has scraped off the internet to determine what is real. Thanks for your opinions and your comment, we are here to discuss such things.Limiting the discussion to virtual instruments, ...
... and industry reports instead.)

Sorry, but AI is not a reliable way of deciding something.kalqlate wrote: Fri Mar 13, 2026 1:18 am For others, who are more interested in how a player version can benefit a synth ecosystem, perform this query:
Best speak for yourself instead of imagining in your mind what others may want and trying to speak for them. That just doesn't work well.

It's safe to say a 'player' will not be happening anytime soon, or even my lifetime.
Good job too.

I dont want a player... I'm sure when the Z3 will be released, it will be good in that form
.
And AFAIK skilled skin designers even can create a player-style skin. For Zebra.....

That does seem possible considering how flexible theming is...dune_rave wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:40 pm And AFAIK skilled skin designers even can create a player-style skin. For Zebra.....

I just bought the player version for Linux. It also happens to be the full version. The best part is I get to decide whether to use the full version vs the player version, just by choosing whether I want to use the knobs or browse presets. And get this—I got both for just the price of one! Now that’s a deal!
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

yes, it would make sense as free plugin (to read-only presets) like kontakt player.sl23 wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 7:10 am I'm not a sound designer. But reading everything, my opinion is that I prefer the full product. There's nothing worse than buying a player then wanting to tweak a sound!
