I've never seen that, I've gotten a bunch of free Waves plugins with their giveaways over the years and they all still work fine. I don't pay for WUP either. Which plugins stopped working for you? Maybe there was a particular giveaway with an expiration date, but I don't have any that stopped working.
Currently Waves Central shows under "my products" that SuperTap expired almost nine years ago (lol) and Curves Resolve they gave away free recently expires Jan 2027. Haven't actually used either one recently. Or does it mean only the updates will cost? I don't have SuperTap installed atm and there seems to be no other way to install it now than pay them.
That's probably just the date that the WUP expires. You're not required to renew the WUP to keep using the plugins.

Think this way - waves exist for so many years. I had my first contact with it in 2005 I think - and the plugins are still there. Other plugins disappear after a while and if you have a workflow with them you can’t use it anymore. Also you can update when there are new plugins out. Especially great if you have mercury as there are new ones added after a while.

But why would anyone want to?
Because you can trust them - the're still updating even their oldest plugins. How many small developers have we seen come and go? How many developers abandoned plugins?

As has been said, there usually is no need to WUP at all - at least not on Windows - and that is actually another very good thing about WUP - with WUP those who are using systems that cause the work are the ones to pay - many of us Windows users are really sick and tired of being (one way or the other) penalized for the mess that is Apple compatability - the stuff just works. But even if at some point in the future it stops working you can rest assured that for a meagre sum you can get the latest version that is compatibility wise state of the art.

I love WUP - because I never need it but it's there if I do. How they can receive so much negativity for it tells more about the users than Waves imo.

Not doing WUP is fine if you’re only using one computer. But I bounce between two, and I’m not interested in juggling licenses or buying two copies of the same plugin.

Personally, I think Waves’ licensing model is predatory. It pulls people in with low upfront prices, then pushes them toward paid upgrades that are often more expensive than what they originally paid. The OP’s situation is a good example of that.

So for me, it’s a pass on Waves. But if someone understands exactly how their licensing and upgrade model works and still wants to support them, that’s their call. You do you.

Is this true? I have H-Delay version 9.2 and it's greyed out in Waves Central. It's not even listed in the Licences tab. I don't see any way to install it.

Edit: Apparently I had to deactivate from old defunct PC and reactivate. Installed it but remembered why I stopped using it and uninstalled it again :hihi:
