Its also fun to mix diff styles/genres. You get some cool fusion going on when they are played toghether at tempos they wouldnt normally be

Its basically a very quick way to get ideas down. If you have some synths going and you quickly want a beat, just load one up. If you like parts of it, you can keep the pattern, edit it, replace smples etc and its all there, without the need to spend ages programming it yourself, so you can concentrate on the stuff you were doing without losing your idea

Yeah - it sounds pretty cool.
It's a bit like having a collection of midi files for each time of instrument (lead synth, drums, guitar etc.) that you drag into a part for the same purposes and then modify later.
The advantage is for Orion is that it isn't JUST a midi file, it also has all the settings of the generator taken care of as well.
It's probably not a revolution as such but it sounds like it could be handy from a workflow perspective especially for drums.
But one thing I can't quite see is that if you've got a synth part in there it's not necessarily going to be in the key your song file is. By the time you've modified the key of the pattern you probably could have written it from scratch yeah? Or am I missing something here?

All STYLES are in C. Open the Piano roll, and press the up/down arrow to transpose it to whatever key you like. Fast and simpleCaleb wrote:

Sounds a bit like the old Yamaha qs/qy type of thing. Does it allow you to change between majors/minors etc or is it just a straight note for note transposition thing?Kriminal wrote:All STYLES are in C. It just moves the whole pattern up/down, but you can select notes and move them (but i have no idea about that major/minor guff, its all jazz to medonkey tugger wrote:

BTW, obviously you can save your own STYLES, and share them with other Orion users, and they are not limited to native synths, they work with VSTi's too (but not sure if they will work with all, but worked with a few i tried)

I just basterdised the House Piano style this morning to fit my new tune. Easy enough to expand, transpose, and shift problem notes that stick out after.
Just like bowling - it's a 5/7 split.
Bit worried about the Styles intefering with other patterns at first. That, and some of the 'cheesy' qualities of them in a 4 bar loop. But Krim and others assure me it's ALL correctable! And they are fairly inspirational and speed the process with out mucking with external synths and .MID files constantly.
ME LIKEY VERY MUCH!
