I've been running Cubase nearly flawlessly for a few weeks now: no clicks, no pops, just pristine audio. It sounded so good I thought I might be recrding 24 bit by mistake. Nope, it was 16 bit still.

Just for old times sake I fired up tracktion tonight... because I do miss it. It's very usable, isn't it? I love the program! I recorded 3 songs my girlfriend is singing at a show tomorrow. Man... Tracktion F***ed up these gorgeous takes. The mood in the room was beautiful. She wasn't afraid of the computer for once... and Tracktion put clicks and pops all over everything.

I love Tracktion, but it really sucks (as far as audio quality and dependability goes). Everything else works perfect on my system. I think I'll stick with Cubase for now and see what else happens.

again: using G4 powerbook with 512 ram, 1 ghz, 40G drive. No problems with other programs... Cubase works flawlessly, esp when audio is in high priority mode.

I don't suppose it occurred to you that there could have been a cause other than Tracktion? ;)

why didnt you use your almighty cubase to record her then?

Tracktion is fantactic for recording audio. It is 100% safe and dependable.

Your system on the other hand is in need of some attention.

Actually, I rather like Tracktion. It's much faster to get going with Tracktion then Cubase. You sound like a bickering baby! Please, give me a suggestion as to what I can do to get it to work. I much prefer Tracktion to Cubase, but one works and the other clicks and pops my audio. I have no VSTs loaded... I just recently formated and reinstalled everything on my drive. You suggest it isn't Tracktion, but eveyrthing else works fine! What could it be??

Try switching off "real time priority" on the settings page.

This is DEFINITELY NOT Tracktion but a configuration issue. I've had it too and it turned out to be somewhat flaky new soundcard-drivers and a few dodgy plugins.
Buy Darling Sister's new album "Rise and fall" now! Just send a pm or an email. Visit our myspace page on www.myspace.com/darlingsister for songsamples.

Remember, when we say "It's not Tracktion", we don't mean that it's not a problem you can fix from within Tracktion, we just mean that it's not -inherently- Tracktion, and you need to check your config.

I agree with the above as the best way to try to eliminate pops and crackles.

If you wanted suggestions, why didn't you just say so, instead of slagging T and French kissing Cubase? You can't be TOO surprised at the reaction, which isn't that of bickering babies, but of defensive mothers and fathers. ;)

The reason for a full blooded defense is that a new person to Tracktion might read your post and believe that Tracktion has some inherent flaw recording audio, a very basic function for a sequencer. I want to make it perfectly clear to you and anyone else new to Tracktion that this sequencer is not at fault but your configuration setup.

When you say what you have done in regards to changing settings you may get some more detailed help, but if you just whine from on far and just blame Tracktion, there is nothing this forum can do, is there?

hey maybe steinberg is losing sales to tracktion so they're sending out highly paid specialists to post stuff like this... Hahahahahahah

I bet they really are doing that too...

Ok, offer some suggestions then. I have no problems with any other programs... Cubase records audio perfectly for me (but it's a bitch to use!). I even recorded 3 tracks perfectly today when downloading an update for my computer. Tracktion fails to clearly record even one track..... I hear loud clicks in my headphones when recording and they appear as little clicks in playback.... like the buffer is all screwed up or something. It really sucks, because I much prefer the simplicity and elegance of Tracktion, and was hoping to do my whole next album on it.

OSX has no "realtime priority mode" in Tracktion. Cubase, however, does. And when I'm using a few nice compression effects or a reverb, it really pays.

I tried recording using Tracktion on a 1.5G4 powerbook and it worked fine with the standard sound card... have you tried disconnecting your soundcard and using the regular sound card as a test? It doesn't crackle at all here.

My default answer is:

-disable "realtime priority mode"
-toggle between on/off for "ASIO direct mode" to see which seems more stable and reliable with the plug-ins you're using. I usually just keep mine off.

Actually you've been given many different things to try but have not reported back if you've tried them, and if you did what the results were.
