Though, as cellular pointed out, at least you can sell the program back legally on e-bay and then head for the free version... well...beats me.

Fer f**ks sake, for the 15th time this week: Yes! Beno made an official announcement in this forum that T1 owners will get a discount on T2 equal to the value of T1 plus a little.Reqs wrote:Did you guys who paid for Tracktion get something that actually states that there will be a discount on T2 for you, or is this just supposition? You well pay less than the difference between T1 and T2 when upgrading, and the people who have the free version will have to pay full price.
Try the search button people!
Jules or Beno, if by any chance you are reading this, can you sticky an official post so this damn topic can go to sleep already.

yes exactly! everyone who is moaning should really just calm down and stop getting so worked up.
it IS worth something, it is still worth buying. there are people who are DEFINITELY interested in T2, and so would be willing to pay for a copy of T1. I'm sure you'll still be able to transfer/sell it after T2 has been released too; after all, not everyone will be able to upgrade to T2 straight away, and that's good for the buyer because it will save them money on T2. so if you feel you've lost out, don't worry, you can sell it at some point.
lastly, i simply don't believe that mackie would have ANY kind of discounted upgrade path from the NFR version.

As long as we real customers get bigger discount, it's OK...

I think it's wrong reasoning anyway - if you buy something and if you are a sane person you buy it because you think it is ´worth the price you have to pay for it.
Now if others get the same thing for free two days later then you should be glad for them because they made even a better deal than you.
But that doesn't make you deal even just a tiny bit worse.
Envy just makes you feel bitter and destroys your mental peace
(and the harmony of the universe
)

Hats of to Mackie for the marketing genius that this has proved to be.
I have sent an e-mail to several buddies who never heard of Tracktion.
They now have it running on their machines.
They will be hooked as we all are.
They will want T2. I don't care if they get a discount on T2; probably won't be a big one, but who cares.
I paid for T1, but now, I have a stable full of buddies who also have it and we can finally share projects.
That was worth my investment in the software (only 1 month ago) by spades.
Mackie; Beno in particular. Genius, pure genius.

Well, you can say "f**k" but you can't reason. I did NOT buy this two days before the free Traction went online, I did buy it a week after!
Who on earth will buy something for $80 when they can get it for free? And I don't care of the reselling bit, though it must be very difficult to resell, if you wanted that.
I am very happy with Tracktion, but try and put yourself in my place before you just let out that automatick "f**k" reaction. Think? A tiny little bit? Try imagine it is you? No?

I donn't agree with you one bit here.
So what you payed $80 for it. If you bought it, you must have thought it was worth what you payed for. The demo was available and FREE. So regardless, you had the opportunity to try it without the need to purchase it. In doing so, it was your choice to BUY the software. They are not obligated to announce it's free... especially when they are not giving away FREE versions with the same license as the purchased.
Get over it. You just want something free....

o.k. if you bought it at a time when you could get it for free that's a bit of another story - I'd be a bit sad then and probably pissed - but rather pissed about myself than about othersdavidcrickett wrote:Well, you can say "f**k" but you can't reason. You're right. I'll buy your copy off of you then. You think you can't sell it. I'll put my money where my mouth is. I've got no problem buying another license. PM me if you are serious.davidcrickett wrote: Who on earth will buy something for $80 when they can get it for free? I did. I thought : I'd get a good discount on V2, I'd *own* a copy of Tracktion rather than have an NFR license, and I'd have given something back to the developer for their hardwork. Kind of like sending authors of freeware money. I'm not being ripped off because I spent money and someone else didn't, rather I'm making an investment in something that I need, and they aren't.Think? A tiny little bit? Try imagine it is you? No?

No. I don't just want something free. I like to pay for what I have. You're not listening. I say: It is bad business ethics to sell something that is for free, never mind what license. You should clearly be notified about it. That was what I said.

but they are not the same... the licenses are totally different... and someone who purchases T1 has an upgrade path to T2. That is what you bought... pretty simple.

I really like Tracktion. I've been waiting well, since 1997 to get a program like this instead of Cubase and Logic, which I think were/are too expensive. You seem to think I'm attacking Tracktion or don't want to pay Jules. I love Tracktion. I love being able to pay the engineer behind it. I will keep my Tracktion and I like the feeling that I've paid for it. I just say: It is no good business ethic to sell something that is for free. How hard is that to grab? Do you think it's nice to sell something, when you know, you have nearly the same product for free on the next shelve?
I'm a Tracktion fan. I will buy the next upgrade. I won't sell this one. I'm happy having paid Jules for his hard work. Don't flame me because I'm pointing out something rather obvious.
