I recommended Valley and ModulR as mods to Jules a couple of months ago. He didn't sound opposed to the idea, but he wasn't sure how to change the privileges to make someone else a mod and was going to ask Ben.

I hope everyone realizes that this forum is only a wee little pocket of the world. OK, it's a fairly major forum in the industry, I suppose, but putting things into perspective--
The world doesn't care enough about the RMS forum on KvR to be affected at all by a perceived "lack of unity" between RMS and Mackie. To them, they see the website, they see the magazine ads, perhaps they download and test the demo (or NFR!) and that's that. That's their experience of the product. It wouldn't even occur to them to wonder about anything, because they just assume it's Mackie Tracktion! (How's THAT for perceived unity! Most people who sign up here or write reviews are calling it Mackie Tracktion! Seems unified to me, though it irks me) I'd wager that it takes an insider (like you or me) who's here more or less for social reasons (let's face it, none of use need Tracktion support five times a day or even five times a month! It HAS to be social!) to even perceive something like that at all.
Sure, some people will check it out due to the various links... the RMS forum is never far away for a Tracktion owner. But I doubt many people even sign up for the forum or ever browse it. And those that DO browse it will fall into 1 of 3 probable categories:
1. A user who's looking for info, is savvy enough to use the 'search' button, and possibly even sign up and request help. They will get the help they're after and not stick around for all the social side of things (ie. "hoax" threads)
2. A user who clicks the link out of curiousity, doesn't really grasp what a forum is (tell most workaday people what an internet forum is, and you'll see some raised eyebrows... tell them that you spend half your life here and you'll get even stranger looks!) and will say, "bloody 'ell, this isn't a user manual!" and quickly close their browser window.
3. People like us, who either lurk long enough or are comfortable enough in forums (in general) to just jump in and start partaking in the support and also the social aspects. We'll all stick around and bicker, despite any perceived disjunction.
I'm not saying there's not a category 4-- a casual browser who thinks, "Shit, I didn't realize that there's such strong opinions going around" and will get paranoid (like back in the Mackie acquisition days! Remember!) that the product is in trouble, when in fact it's never been stronger-- with a hefty backer, the original programmer, magazine advertising and reviews, and so forth. T2 on the horizon, with what should be a good feature set...
So all I'm saying is that the category 4 user will only become worried, paranoid, or wonder about "lack of unity" (which I don't believe there is one) because of posts like this one. Doesn't anybody else see the irony?

Mind you, the 'user forum' link on the Mackie's T page is still directed to, surprisingly, here.
Look, I know RMS isn't Mackie. But using that as an excuse for 'anything goes here', is simply ridiculous.
Personally I hope jules can get both valley and modulr into the patrol force. That should be able to restore the order here in no time.

a few points:
1) I'm fed up with the hoax threads. They weren't funny even the first time, but ttoz's latest one was actually quite disturbing...
2) I did not realise it until now, but it seems Mackie have an official Tracktion forum on their own site. I understand that RMS and Mackie aren't entirely one entity, but it DOES seem confusing to have two "official" forums.
3) Because of the upsetting hoaxes and puerile behaviour of a minority on this forum it is very tempting to me now simply to migrate to the new "official" forum at Mackie.
4) I think that the hoax threads have done very serious damage to the credibility of Tracktion and its users. I realise that similar things have very occasionally happened elsewhere, but when users go top the extent of disguising the IP address and personal identity in an effort to pretend to be official spokespeople posting on behalf of Jules and/or Mackie, things have clearly gone WAY too far.
5) I don't think it would be unreasonable for those concerned to be banned from both forums. Having said that I hope that a less confrontational solution can be found that puts this to rest.
Jules, for the sake of those of us who really do care about Tracktion, please could you do something to sort this out?

Like a lot of people, I'm dead keen to see news of T2 as soon as its announced, but last night I wasted the best part of an hour reading something that turned out to be a hoax. Fun for the few, perhaps, but not for the many.
Ttoz, the fact that your wasting my time annoyed me hopefully does not actually make me an "uptight twat"!
