I am in the same boat pHz... out of samplers available prior to Shortcircuit, Slifty was the only one I liked... but Slifty has never been general purpose enough... shortcircuit easily fills that void, in addition to having the ability to get very experimental like slifty (but in a different way). My wallet doesn't want to cough up the cash, but I think I'm gonna sell some stuff in order to round up the cash... As valley mentioned, the USD sucks right now... but I'd like to support vember audio... and with such a great start in v1, I'd love to see where he takes this thing.

You might want to look into doing some tit for tat deals with UK KvRians. 
My way of dealing with exchange rates is either:
- if I think the bad rate is temporary (less than two months) I buy stuff on a UK credit card, then pay it off when the exchange rate settles.
- find someone in the UK who wants something from the US, then have them buy me the software and I send them something in exchange. Clothes and watches etc are cheap to ship, can be tagged as gifts, and typically much cheaper in the US than in the UK, so a little bit of bartering usually comes up with a mutually beneficial deal.
