Yep, like the MicroKORG and the MS2000, patches are interchangable. The only differences, feature-wise, are tha tthe Micron has extra effects [reverb and delay] and a programmable pattern sequencer that includes drum sequences. The word is that the ION will eventually get those in a software update but no-one knows when.
Everything I have read indicates that the MICRON is much easier to edit ppatches on that it looks from the small number of buttons/knobs. Then there is the fact that the ION/Micron has twice the polyphony of the MS2000.

The other difference between the Ion and the Micron is that the knobs transmit different nrpns, so you can't just drop a Micron into a track that was using an Ion. Probably not a problem for most people, but something to be aware of.

The Micron is surprisingly easy to edit given the limited number of controls, although the Ion is certainly better in this respect. Hopefully Alesis will back port the new Micron features to the Ion, as well as make the Ion patch that makes it use CCs instead of nrpns for the Micron as well.

Both of them are very cool little synths though. I wish they'd make one with more voices, but I suppose they will if the Ion and Micron sell well enough.

They are so cheap you could just buy two!

Man Bones you really do your homework, good stuff.

Now, did you BUY one yet?

Nah, I just sold my old yacht and I am waiting for the money. I tried every damned store in Sydney the other day and there is not a single Ion or Micron on the floor for me to try out so it's going to be the second blind purchase of my life. The first was an ASR-X, based on a review in Future Music. It was a disaster, that thing was a piece of shit compared to the ASR-10 I sold to get it. Still, I have many more points of reference these days and I will buy with confidence.

The ASR10 was awesome, the X sucked.
I had the EPS for awhile but sold it to get my VFX-SD,still have it and love it.
I tried a lot of analog modeled keyboards, had the AN1X and I think no matter WHAT kind of music you are doing you can do it with this and the realtime control just adds to it all, ya can't go wrong.

Interstingly, I am almost in a position where sound is secondary as I will only use it live. I know that it will do all the things I need it to so as long as it doesn't sound like utter shite, I can't go wrong. As it stands, I'm sure it will stack up well next to our K-Station and Prophecy so I am not at all worried.

WOO-HOO! I finally found a store with an Ion on the floor. Unfortunately they are closed until next week but I saw it through the window so I can play with one next week.

I previewed about 5 presets before I was convinced that the Micron will be perfect for us. Now it's just a matter of getting the cash together.

I found another cool feature BONES, you can hold down your last note while changing presets and the new one won't kick in till you hit another note.
I've got $2000 synths that won't even do that. :-o

Same as the octave Up/Down, one of the things I checked yesterday. Very cool/clever implementation. Alesis really know how to do stuff. So I assume you are lovin' it more and more? I gotta get these guys to buy my yacht so I can get into it.

Yeah, just hit a patch called "sizzler" or take a moog patch and lower it a couple of octaves and it can get nice and raunchy but still clean.
Changing the filter's sound with the slider in real time can really add life to a patch.

When you play live people are gonna freak over the red light mod wheel. :-o

btw, I also have the Prophecy, I can't wait to organize my room so I can hear these two together. :-o

We haven't used our Prophecy much lately, mostly because its such a bitch to program, but we've decided that it's definitely going on the road with us in May, even if we just use some of those schweeeeet presets.

I'd recommend the ion or micron too - though more the micron as it's a HUGE bang for the buck!

full size keys, tons of add ons over the ion, and it looks like people here are happy with the editing over the microkorg menu dive :D

I had an ion until just recently, and only sold it as I'm rotating hardware and needed the space. I'm pretty sure in the next year I'll probably pony up for a micron though - some of the sounds and the filters in the ion engine are KILLER.

Bones - you will love it, and I'd hazard a guess that once you start playing with it you will end up using it in recordings ;)
