It is. It's Microsoft's grand plan for eliminiating Linux, bedroom software programmers, and hardware companies they don't happen to like the looks of in one easy pass.

It quite scares the willies out of me...

The purpose is basically to create an interdependency between OS and hardware such that they need to authenticate with each other at all stages of operation. If and hardware or software fails to report itself correctly or cannot give proper trusted credentials the system would lock down.

It'd potentially eliminate root kits and the like, and it'd make it tough as hell for viruses to exist, but then since getting code registered as 'trusted' would most likely come with monetary cost, it basically translates into a developer tax. A tax which free (both in speech and beer) software would find hard to pay.

Oh, and your multi-region dvd player, or CD drive capable of ripping audio in anything other than DRM form would not be welcome to the party either.

I couldn't get it to work but that was some time back and wine has probably moved on a lot since then.

Sorry mates, but I was joking. Even IF wine would run Tracktion, you'd be unable to use JACK or achieve a low latency.

Sorry for disappointing you...
