Now THAT just might be the ultimate horn collection, well maybe Tower of Power as well. Hey Squids..get on that will ya :D
We have a loop dvd featuring Greg Adams of tower of power coming out soon. there are a ton of single shot samples but they are not set up to use in a sampler (no sustain loop points).4,631 loops and one-shots in both acid and apple loop format (total of 9000+ loops).

anyway, it will be out as soon as we raise the initial production money. if you dig horns like I do, check it out. It will be available from the Big Fish website I'm sure.

What Squids REALLY means....
Squids wrote:It's going to be wild. I might also sit in with Nuno and co. playing the Continuum. Crazy week here. Luckily my hotel has wireless internet so I can torment my friends at KVR before I go.

All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

No continuum, no keyboard drumming, no Nick singing, no Heart of the Sunrise, no Squonk but... I did get to play with Jon Anderson. It was cool. We did Broadway Melody and Long Distance Runaround.

I talked to Patrick Moraz for a while too. I asked him about playing with Yes and about learning the keyboard parts and what that was like for him. That was a long interesting conversation. I think he'd do a demo for Sonik Synth 2 for us. He's really nice.

Everyone was really cool. I've become chums with the EWF guys and Ricky Lawson. I think we'll be able to do something with them again. Neil Zaza was great too and he's a member of Sonik Elementz for future gigs for sure. We're going to work out some cool stuff for the next time we do this.

There's more to tell but I am tired at the moment. If there's anything in particular you want to know guys feel free to ask. It was an awesome weekend! This was the best NAMM for IK and SR. A lot of action, a lot of new stuff and some really great musicians in one place.

Post

i was going to make a new post about the IK and SR products released at namm but i thought heck i should post it here.

first off i couldnt figure out how to photograph at the Galaxy theatre so...
anyways i made a friend at the namm show who was able to score himself a ticket from the dean markley booth and he secretly videotaped squids' set with john anderson. i am waiting for him to contact me and i should be able to get the recording soon. i dont know how squids feels about this but the guy isnt selling it or anything he's just a nut that was a huge fan of YES, Kevin Gilbert, Giraffe, EWF etc. and i think these people will do anything to record these shows. i think he is going to have to buy sonik synth 2 because he will get all those sounds in there and you dont have to patch your old modulars to do it.

anyways, i got to hear some of miroslav orchestra. it was sounding really sweet. i saw all types of string and brass samples but the combi menu wasnt really made yet. there are special features for controlling the swell/vibrato envelopes of the sample. the interface is looking cool, and appropriately is a violin with luscious gold knobs. this was a real prototype but i was glad to see that there is still a lot in this one.

studiophonik i didnt get to play much with but i was able to show people some drums and stuff. it should be wild to see how they pack in these instruments. this one will focus in on being a "control freak" with the engineering of the sounds, like you would if you were working with a band and got to mix and match certain drum elements on the fly.

Ampeg. this was a phat ass amp simulation. it's chunkier than my canadian friend Rita Mcneil. i got to play some bass and showed it off in a few jams on our little stage. but it's when the pros came by like polo jones that i really got to sit there and listen to it. i dont know the actual ampeg cabinet so well but a lot of people walking by told me that they believed this is exactly what ampeg sounds like to them. the ampeg booth was doing A B tests but i didnt get to go over there.

Amplitube 2, woosh! i was such a fan of it. some functions werent working for the show but most of it was from what i could tell? it's going to be the best amp plugin. i cant foresee any other company making something to compete with this level of amp simulation. i think other companies are doing great stuff, but this is really unique. Neil Zazza gave amplitube 2 a run for it's money. so did Freddy Fox. Al Kooper, what a nice guy. he loved amplitube 2 just as much as the next dude stopping by the booth.

everyone loved sonik synth 2. everyone who i spent around 10-15 minutes with on it expressed a great interest to get it. i didnt spend that much time with it if the person told me they had nothing to do with keys or synths, those people would look at amplitube 2 more.

T-Racks is still grabbing a lot of new users at the show even though it's been around for years now. im predicting something new in that department next year's namm. that's just my guess because sampletank and amplitube have got their updates. maybe IK will make a dj product eventually? i have tons of ideas for that one.

Looks like you need to run those red eyes through photoshop :D

Boy, Jon A is looking great for his age. I thought he would be a wrinkled prune by now. He must go jogging every day and eat lots of bran or something. Time is not so kind to a lot of these big name cats.

Can you believe this is the same cat that use to rock every saturday night on "Headbangers Ball"????

What patches did u use to recreate this, or did u use hardware

No i-map action ???? I would have been dissapointed by that. like going to see EVH and no guitar solo-bummer

yeah man and i think it has always helped having people like you and I to support them early on. i remember that day when i was talking to squids on the phone about what Sonic Synth is and he told me that it was something i *had* to have, and then i pulled out my credit card and....

it changed everything. it got me really into making music, as well as playing keyboard better. it has been fun to watch Sonic Reality grow over the past few years and being at namm was amazing to see things like Miroslav. i think SR has been doing fabulous strings, but this just rocks! i think this is what he's been hinting to me about when he said that they have big plans for the orchestral stuff a long time ago.

Prog: i want to share a little quicktime movie i composed music for this year using mostly sonic synth with sampletank2:

it's called "Masterpiece" it's like 70 megs but should be worth it if you want to see what im up to these days.

I'm more a gtr player, but after i made the wise decision to get in on the SS1 group buy (shoot, that was actually a no-brainer, hell of an awesome deal)I've been shedding on the keys a ton more.

I struggle with piano bad at school. play the all the major and minor ii-V's in root position. play simultaneous right and left hand scales in 2 octaves, major and minor in every key. getting told to go sit down in the middle of a jury performance becuse of stupid mistakes (nothing is more humiliating and frustrating than that). staying up till 4 or 5 am every night for weeks, drinking chemical coffee till i felt like puking. it got to the point where i loathed the piano and considered it my wicked, cruel taskmaster.

may sound silly, but SS1 has put the joy of playing keyboard back into my life. It dosen't have to be a technically perfect performance, but man, it sure sounds sweet to my ears.

wow i totally relate to that story. in terms of specific music study(performance and songwriting) i have really avoided that stuff. but with sonik 2 you can teach yourself about mixing/engineering, film score orchestration, synthesis - anything you want.

it's awesome.

those exercises they making you do, i kind of miss that stuff. it's good for you. i suck at keys i think. you should see squids playing.

You used to be able to say - ST, SS - yeah they're all good but they're no Miroslav.

I guess now they are!

:D

I've bought a couple of strings libraries including SR's Symphonic Strings and Kirk Hunter's VSS, but I always remain firmly in a budget for these things. I just simply can't afford the incredibly expensive libraries. On the other hand - I'm always trying to find the best for less.

I will be keeping my eye very closely on IK's new product, it could be the happiest medium yet.

The other thing is that I'm seriously wondering whether there is such thing as having too many string libraries. I can see alot of advantages to layering and switching between multiple libraries just to vary things a little. Maybe more experienced midi mockup writers can comment here.

After all that, i still suck too.

Yeah, I'm a fan of Squids awesome musicianship and unique technique. he definately deserves to be playing with the big name boys in Sonik Elements.

I just want to know-
A) when they are going on tour and
B) where i can get my official "Squids for President" Tee-shirt.

Is there a book on using advanced sample libraries. I've been on a mad search for tips on using the orkester library with reason. There is this cat over at reasonstation.net (NOT . com, that redirects you to some 13 year olds webcam site... Nothing pisses me off more than some freaking perverted kiddie porn pedalar hijacking your browser becuse you typed in the extension of a totally legit site !!!! going to 98lite.com instead of 98lite.net does the same thing, which happend to me at work right in front of my female boss- but i digress)

anyway, there is this cat at reasonstation.NET named sasmith who does some incredible, realistic things with orkester. I downloaded all the stuff he had posted so i could analyze his techniques.

There was a site called midi-mockup.com that seemd like it would be an awesome resource, but it looks like it is no more

I said all that to say this- Yes, Please, any midi mockup cats that hang out here, please enlighten us common folk to some of your tips and tricks.
