T has ogg and flac support built in already for archives :)

Tracktion uses FLAC for it's archives. Hit the about button for details.

What people have already posted about archive collaboration is the best way to do it, and is better than any other sequencer I'm aware of.

Knew it had ogg, didnt know about flac :D

As web-based publishing and distribution becomes more and more prominent for independent musicians, mp3 becomes more and more of an issue. Though formats like AAC and Ogg Vorbis are technically superior, nothing is as widespread or cross-platform as the mp3 format.

Having the ability to export to mp3 directly from Tracktion would be a great boon. This is an important function. Some of you might be happy with an external program, but not all of us want to play computer engineer -- in fact, that's entirely antithetical to the purpose of Tracktion in the first place, as it aims to make the digital recording experience more transparent and easier to use. An integrated solution for mp3 mixdown lends itself to that very well, and I, for one, really hope that it will be included in T2.

If you are honestly worried about playing computer engineer, please have a look at this program. You right click a wav file on your hard drive, it becomes an mp3. It really doesn't get much easier

It's also a function that would cost money. MP3 support would push up the price of Tracktion. Maybe you would want to pay more for MP3 support, I don't know. But that the end of the day, its a vlue decision. Do enough people need audio compression at all? How many of Tracktion's users only need CD audio for example. For those that do want compression, how many specifically want mp3 support over the superior ogg format. Of that percentage, how many want to pay for it, and should the rest of the user base be expected to pay for something they don't want or need.

People are talking about this as though it is a feature, it's not, it's a licensing issue, and as such the arguments for and against are completely different.

Bollocks to MP3

:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

I hate it!

If you really have to squeeze it smaller, use Ogg-Vorbis..

I'm wondering if Tracktion could not simply be made to act as a front end for the Lame encoder. I would think that, as long as the dll is not distributed with Tracktion, we wouldn't have to pay a license fee; Audacity does it, why not T also?

I mean, mp3 encoding from T would be somewhat nice, but I don't want to pay extra when I have a perfectly good free solution (Razorlame).

i agree with "bollocks to mp3"

if you really need to convert to mp3 and you're so aghast at having to right-click a wav to render it to mp3 and want that much to have it incorporated into tracktion, even with what people are saying here, then tbh i can't be bothered listenning to you. :P :P

i always render my finals as wav anyway. why would i want to do a final render at a lower rate? it's much faster to convert a final render than to rerender at a low rate. some people are loopy.

I can´t deny that being able to export to mp3 directly from Tracktion would be quite convenient.

I agree... i'd rather have the energies of the tracktion team ;)put into bigger and better things, most definitely! Please forget i said anything at all.... sorry Jules.... genuinely lol

just looking forward to T2, can't wait, can't wait!!!
The broadcast .wav import will take care of any of those kind's of needs anyway... not with size of course, but with being able to go between progs.

Hi guys,

I've just noticed this thread (here I come, Lunch Money)... ;-)

This isn't a VITAL feature, but comes under "ease of use" - if I'm collaborating on a project, and the person sends me mp3 files, it would be great to open Tracktion, import multiple files (as discussed elsewhere) and automatically convert them.

Anyway, I can live without this one if I have to, but I'd like it!

I'd prefer the other way round if anything ie. export in .mp3 so I can quickly send them via the interent. Import less so.

I'd like to export in Ogg.
