1 Logic Pro 6
2 PSP Audioware's Entire FX Range, Nitro, Vintage Warmer. Lexicom 84, Mix Pack etc
3 EWQLSO Gold Edition
4 PMI Bosendorfer Sample library for EXS24
er I've run out, but I do use Es2 and exs24 as my main synth and sampler, and if you include PSP's stuff individually then it's more than ten

I doubt I'll even get up to 10...
Host:
Sonar
Instruments:
Reaktor
Absynth
Tera
Symptohm:Melohman
White Noise Additive
Effects:
Spektral Delay
Editor:
Sound Forge
Note that both Reaktor and Absynth can be used as effects. The additive synth choice was hard; while I also own (and love) Cameleon and Vertigo, I find the White Noise one to be the one I go to most often.
That's eight-I could make a CD easily with that and be happy with the results

To be fair I think you should count each Reaktor ensemble individually. Otherwise we might as well use VST as a single entity.

It's the modular concept of reaktor that makes it so special.

Reaktor *is* a single entity. Following your argument to its illogical conclusion, you fail by your inclusion of Orion, which contains a multitude of (host-locked) software instruments.

Dave, I hope we can meet up at one of the kvr party's this year coz I totally admire your honesty and no bullshit aproach.
these threads totally suck BIG TIME, all you get is some tw@ telling us what THEY use.
not exactly a wide range of possibilities
with some of the setups mentioned.

um, yeah .. well, thanks for the sarcasm ;) just trying to figure out if i'm missing on something, cause haven't been on softsynths for that long..
well, 1'st: I'm not trying to get at your "secrets" because I don't think many of us make same kind of music as me ..
I want to emphasize though, that I'd like to know what /you/ would choose for /any/ kind of album you would like to make, and not "what would be most versatile, for all kind of stuff anyone could want to do".
- and that you would have infinite cpu power ;)
- you don't have to list the os.
- hypothetically you wouldn't have access to the internet.
ok, there's been enough debate about which host is "best", because that's sooo subjective, but I think there's at least some vst you have to agree on if nothing else?
so what I'd like to see is some healthy debate and friendly argumentation (possible here? ;))) about that which pieces do the job best. and that's why arguments would be good so that people don't just state "this and this eq is the best" when the question still is: for what? and that's what I'd like to know.
of course it is a good thing that many people choose what they use now, because they speak from experience. but don't you think that some pieces would be better than the ones you currently use, but you just can't afford them right now?
examples of the stuff I'd like to learn:
- I heard that the sonalksis eq:s are widely considered as best sounding for some applications, but what are the ups'n'downs? how do they compare to voxengo/waves?
- what about other plug-ins? the classic series from kjaerhus was suggested. but I guess there is better sounding FX, too? but you still would choose the classic series? why? (remember, unlimited cpu;))
- best reverbs?
- what would you consider best in mixing/mastering?
I'm in the process of learning new stuff, and I'm /very/ serious about music, so it would be nice if you could pinpoint "all the good stuff" you "have to know" so that I can concentrate on learning stuff and not just hunting everything down separately with google in search of the subjective matters of "which are considered best".
I'm almost done with testing sequencers, and about halfway with synths I want to test, but I'd like to know more about FX and multitrack audio-editors and mastering/mixing tools.
If this topic pisses you off, just don't answer, then. I'm here to really seriously learn stuff, and I hope you can help me.
bottom line: what vst/vsti/other piece of software is generally considered "the best" and "must have" for which application and why?
*hugs*

i dont find sonalksis that outstanding and think these are overprized compared to the competitors (same for waves).moonlite wrote: ...

kjaerhus is very very good all the way, free and comercial. i would compare voxengo to kjaerhus price wise, bang for the bucks.
erm..
