Anything about MUSIC but doesn't fit into the forums above.

This place is just the best. Way ahead of anything else.

I mean, look at Music Cafe, you can post a craptastic song and get the most wonderful, helpful constructive critisism which makes you want to try even harder and you get better each time.

The people here are just awesome. This place has character. It's something more then just a simple news site and forum.

I presume that a lot of the same people on this forum are on others as well but the traffic on the others seems so much more fragmented.. As a practical example I notice that Kriminal had posted the Karnage announcement on KVR, The CM forum and patcharena (perhaps others but these were the ones I noticed). I also posted a heads up on the FLStudio forum..

The number of views and/or replies on the other forums was next to nothing.. On KVR, 4700+ views and 109 replies, and this is before its even released.

I would be interested in your opinions on why KVR seems to get so much more traffic, is it because its topic of interest is much more clearly defined rather than the other forums which seek to cover all areas..
I liken this forum to the USENET groups of yore, if you really have a question for the nerds; post it up and they will bicker over it, I tried this on some other sites but I always would get answers back like "yo, you gotta put some compression on that shit dogg!" Honestly the level of intelligence here is just HIGHER.

I used to wonder if the entire music making community was born to retarded midgets. I don't mind being talked down to by a 14 year old in Nebraska, but coming here is like night and day.
Life IS short, enjoy.

I certainly do remember the Massiva boy - oh Phuzzy one.

Just looking at my joining date I feel like an old fart. :hihi:

One thing I like about this place is you can just type how you want to speak and quite often noone seems to get offended if you litter your sentences with swear words. I really appreciate that because I tend to swear alot in my every day speech. :D

I remember the first Music Café comps too. That was a good move in the long run. I don't think we ever stopped getting complaints about competition formats and themes and restrictions etc... but all-in-all there was some good spirit fostered there.

Mostly I think a whole bunch of residents here seem like friends to me. I don't see them and they're not necessarily in the same continent - but I feel like they're just over the other side of my computer screen. I don't feel that as much in other forums.

Its got good content, it has a good layout, lots of things easily accessible from front page, i.e latest posts, news, last 50 posts etc etc so dont have to click through pages to get to active posts/disscussions. Brilliant quick links menu, search vsts by features, free or pay for etc. Devs can be reached in public, plus once a forum reaches a critical mass it has enough going on to sustain peoples intrest,so attracts even more people and becomes a must visit place.

Its also intresting to see if the server will be up, down or slow. Its unpredictable, never quite know what to expect from it, which gives the place an edge :) KVR is OK.

PS I miss having the company forums last posts on the main page.

Oh, how I remember those early days when I posted that track with bah-bahs etc. [the hazelnut way, I believe it was called, god I could come up with such good titles then, I'm starting to sound like a country singer so I'll stop  ] and Caleb told me he liked it. That really made me want to keep doing this music thing.

Let's face it. We're the greatest bunch on people on earth. :D :D

This what makes KVRAUDIO.com a favorite

1. The Forum is the official residence to many plug-in developers. Its the first of its kind of any website. One of the greatest ideas Ive seen.
2. The News-One of my first stops for news related to music.
3. Group Buys-What forum do you know even offers anything to its members.
4. Information-More then a few good people to share some knowledge with.
5. The Layout here is well done.
6. I cant find a better place to find my daily high.
Please dont bite me.

Yeah, no shit.

I totally quit music for two years once when I was in this band that had a really crappy rehearsal space and I found out (after stepping over it all day) that the shallow pool of liquid outside our door, which I had taken for spilt beer, was actually the urine of some f**king retard who couldn't make it to the bathroom.

Now I do electronic music, in a clean room with no urine.....Thanks, KVR

Definitely. Just go to futureproducers.com to see the kind of wannabe idiot "beat makers" we don't have to put up with here. There are other intelligent forums too, but the traffic is so slow and you don't get enough feedback. Also, other places can be a bit uptight--you type a 4-letter word and you're in trouble.

I love KVR because:

1)Vast amount of information and resources.

2)Lots of traffic and questions get answered quickly.

3)Intelligent and passionate folks--although I might not see eye to eye with them about musical taste.

4)Contests and activities.

5)Developers are here.

One thing that could make me stop going to other forums is if KVR actually merged with Northern Sound Source or Sonic Control--or just add a Sample Library/Sample developers section. KVR leans heavily to the electronic/pop side of the music spectrum, so I have to go to other forums for orchestral/film & game scoring.

KVR Rocks!

I first discovered it when searching the net for an affordable alternative to Reaktor 3 which had just come out. (I was using someone elses internet connection: I couldn't afford my own at the time, let alone Reaktor!)

I discovered KVR, which introduced me to Sync Modular.. which came closer to being exactly what I was looking for than I would ever have dreamt possible!

In fact, in many ways this was a better result than simply being given a free Reaktor (or downloading a crack!) as it encouraged me to learn more about the dsp that goes on behind the scenes. (I can't describe the moment of shear mind-expanding amazement when I first realised that the native SM filters were Macros made of nothing but basic maths modules, and a mysterious "Z^-1" thingy!)

If I hadn't implemented various filter algorithms in Sync Modular, there is no way I would have ever dreamed I could learn to write a Synthedit filter module, and all that goes on behind the nice plug-in guis would still be "black magic" as far as I was concerned!

KVR has seriously expanded my mind!!

Shortly afterwards I tentatively posted a link to some tunes I had made in the Music Cafe.. and got a page full of thoughtful and intelligent responses from a wide variety of perspectives.. I've been hooked ever since!

My post count seems to have gone up dramatically since I got a job that involves sitting in front of a pc all day though :hihi: and broadband at home doesn't help! My music-making was already suffering from too much Synthedit, so if you lot wouldn't mind being less witty and entertaining for a while I might get some more tunes written..

vsts

then devs

that does it there, but as a 'center,' kvr attracted/s people like me who have ~ulterior interests in a heavily visited site.. which makes people, culture, kvr more interesting..

when i showed up it was with the attitude that a PERMISSIVE environment is more sensible, since restrictive environments breed/innovate resistance.. as such, w/o rules to struggle against, any behaviour has to be carried on its' own merits.

and i think that is a contributor to longevity

kevvvvv wrote:What we also saw was that with the users and the downloaders, devs turned up. People like Angus Hewlett, Mike Kleps and Pete Linsener appeared. They were all broke programmers with big dreams. KvR obviously offered them something (Lots of other devs too, but can't mention you all, can we, bram )

And the situation changed.

Users could now actually talk to manufacturers which in music was pretty well unheard of. Usually we all simply sat and simpered until Yamaha or Korg pissed on us from a great height.
That's the real thing that sets KVR apart from the others-the devs are part of the community. A lot of them don't hang out in their own little corner either; they come out to play with us :D

And, if the dev isn't here, there's someone here who's part of the beta team or what have you for whatever you have a question about who can help you.

Then, there's the people (and web personas of the people) who hang here. KVR's just a family with 80,000 brothers and sisters :D

you know, i know, we know, we can get our hands dirty ourselves, and it is getting easier to do every day.. and the music here shows it don't hurt none
