Me, too. :D I think I'm going to make my own, though. Once I've learned what I can from the guitar I'm in the middle of making. Going from what I'm doing now to a Steinberger-style guitar will be an easy transition. ;)

It's in bits and pieces right now. White Limba semi-hollow body with a 3/4" maple top. Not yet carved, which is holding me back. The shape is a scaled-down Lucille (ES-335), and it will have ivory binding. Need to order the binding router bit. <grumble>

Maple neck with Ebony fingerboard, medium frets, Grover tuners, an SD Jazz for the neck pickup and an SD JB for the bridge. PRS-style wiring, straight-ish string pull on a slightly undersize headstock.

It'll be painted black.

Now, it's still in pieces, though. Headstock is angled, but nothing else done on the neck. Body is chambered but the top isn't carved and the pickup and neck cavities aren't routed yet. Almost all the pieces and parts are purchased, but I need that router bit to proceed.

To be honest, it's a real hassle. I'm enjoying it, but there are always details I've forgotten about. I'll sit down to work on it and go, "Shit, I won't be able to use a router bit on the ebony fingerboard... now I need to buy a robo-sander" and things like that.

Next time, I'm getting a Carvin neck-through with a paddle headstock and building from there.

When this one is done, it'll be called "Lucy" because it's really a small Lucille. ;)

You can read about the progress (haven't touched it in 6 months, but I finally ordered more parts that I need just last night, including the aforementioned router bit) in THIS Project Guitar thread, or just forget about the narrative and wade through 4 pages of photos at THIS PhotoBucket.com album.

-Some talent to make the most of what I have already. :help:

I start thinking of what the Beatles made Sgt. Peppers on and except for mics, I think I'm probably far beyond most of their capabilities technically. My issues are with getting stuck in musical ruts, and this ever constant desire to see what new software is available as opposed to getting on with making music. Oh yeah, and a lack of any real talent.

So my wishlist is really:

-Lots of psychedellic drugs. My music would sound so much better if I was high.

@Greg:

Wow! That sounds gorgeous! Good luck with it. :)

I'd love to have a guitar I made myself, but I know I could never make one as nice as mine so I can't see it happening really!

I used to have a Jeff Beck in my first Les Paul though (whick got stolen  ) and it sounded great.. I should probably stick one in my current guitar. Theres something else for the list! :tantrum:

Not sure if we wrote at the same time, but I edited and put links to my work in-progress so far, if you want to check it out. Not much to see, really, but there it is. ;)

Braj - I know what you mean about that talent thing. I've just spent half the night tracking some vocals and I realized how shitty a singer I really am. *sigh*

When you say making a steinberger-like guitar, are you going to use a steinberger bridge/trem? I just found that you can buy them seperately (of course, the transtrem is more than all my monthly expenses combined)

Yeah, I thought that. Then I look at people who play golf, or have a membership in a sport club/gym. I look at people who collect DVDs. hell, I look at the monthly cost of my wifes' DirecTV and Tivo subsription. Then I don't feel so bad.

Most teenagers have more expensive monthly cell-phone plans than my average monthly gear/software tab.
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

That's a good way to put it in perspective.

Well said. This is so true: alot of the great music that so many people enjoy was produced on equipment that really wasn't that great in today's terms. Yet it's still great music. It's the frickin' music, man, not always the highest bit-depth and the careful-est tweaking of compression or EQ or whatever.

I have the same "ever constant desire to see what new software is available" syndrome. I think it avoids my actually having to make some music. :D

As of right now, I'm going with either the ABS trem (no 'trans' functionality) or the Floyd Rose Speedloader. I'm leaning toward the latter, but I don't want the concept to go bust and have strings unavailable. :D

I've never seen any "licensed" Steinberger trems and I can't afford the original, so it'll probably be the Speedloader.

Anyone interested in making guitars should give it a go... sign up for Project Guitar and have at it! I didn't take woodshop, either. ;)
