The enhancement in this EQ is very subtle indeed. What it generally does is the added smoothness everywhere and sparkle on the high frequencies. You won't find as smooth and powerful EQ anywhere else. Notice that no matter how you push it, you won't get the usual phasing artifacts present on every single digital EQ to date (although glissEQ2 is almost as good). Also, if you cut with this one, you will simply notice the frequencies disappearing transparently. No odd phasing or muddiness to be found.
As Aleksey said, it probably is as good as it can get for the moment.
The CPU hit isn't as bad as it first seems. There's no other way to get this type of smoothness as a DSP process. Just for kicks, do a massive boost (+20) of 'air' around 30khz. I dare you to find me another EQ that allows this! You can almost see the sparkles.
As an added bonus to a brilliant EQ, if anyone ever wanted an extremely high quality non-aliasing exciter, this is the one, although not in the most traditional way.

What is interesting about this one is that it forces you to really listen, because it starts getting especially interesting in generating unconventional curves by cutting and boosting (a la the king of passive EQ, Pultec!).
Very interresting and smooooth!

Anyone A/B-ed this with UAD's Precision EQ? I'm going to do that as soon as I'm back in my studio (unfortunately, that won't be today).

Quite lovely...the way this EQ preserves the transients is just spectacular...just a bleeding marvelous thing. It's wonderful how much depth you can reveal in a finished mix without things turning to hash and mush in the sidebands and having your carefully presented soundstage going to pieces.
*cough*...I hate to sound like some blithering fanboy here chaps, but I fancy this as *the* blade of choice for carving and shaping on native systems...at least for now, anyroad.
The EQ I downloaded only allows me a 9db punch or cut.

I dare you to tell me how you got *that* kind of boost, mate.Kingston wrote: Just for kicks, do a massive boost (+20) of 'air' around 30khz. I dare you to find me another EQ that allows this! You can almost see the sparkles.

Aleksey, please consider making a m/s version of this EQ or maybe let people EQ left and right signals separately and if this isn't possible then at least provide a mono version of it (so that owners of energy XT can build a custom m/s eq out of it).
Cheers!

Haven't given this a thorough testing, but I can't see a reason to use this over GlissEQ for those of us who already have it. Or am I missing something?

You are definately missing something.. the sound. It sounds way DIFFERENT, not better, but different to gliss eq. I prefere the Gliss EQ sound when using narrow cuts but I prefere Harmonic EQ when making wider cuts (and I own neither!! grrrrrrrrr@!!
).

erm... how about trying to combine more than one bell/shelf?
Yes, this thing has more than one blade for carving, remember?

This EQ has +-9 dB range only. In practice it can go audibly higher/lower due to its design.
bmanic, HarmoniEQ should already offer you a mono->stereo processing which should be twice as efficient in comparison to full stereo processing. So building a custom FX in EnergyXT should not be hard.
I'll of course consider adding an M/S coder/decoder there, but I'm not keen on it. It is also impossible for me right now to implement separate L and R EQ curves - at least for now.
Thank you for your feedback!

Hmmm, I don't have time at the moment to investigate. If there is really some 'sonic advancement' made by this, then the next step would be to use the same algorithm with the advanced functionality of GlissEQ, i.e. there seems to be no reason to attach a different algorithm to a funcionally simpler EQ.

Well, he did put considerable r'n'd effort to the algorithm design and tuning. That's what you're paying for. Come on, let the man run his business in peace.chagzuki wrote:Hmmm, I don't have time at the moment to investigate.
