Yeah, well, you guys are right. Upon opening eXT I was like huh? And that's not a good way to make sales. Well, it was the same thing when I opened FL Studio. Except I actually dug into it and I'm still saying huh? I guess it comes from my Cubase background and I'm more familiar with 'sequencers' than anything else. Tracktion really stood out when I opened it. There it was, staring me in the face. I can see from jens screenshots that I wasn't digging hard enough, obviously. However, if I can't readily see what eXT brings to the table, I can't justify it. You know? I was a big fan of Massiva and I've still got it on this PC and it was a great purchase for me at the time. I'd love to keep supporting Jorgen and I may buy it just to do that. Maybe with a little time, it'll all become apparent. I was just speaking of a new users reaction when opening the program. Its hard to sell something people don't understand. But, no offense to any of the programs. FL does a lot of things right, it just isn't for me since I need really in depth midi editing and the interface is soooo confusing. I mean, there's like 4 controllers in the piano roll that you can readily edit. No thanks. Tracktion for me, thanks. It aint the prettiest midi editor around, but all my controllers are there.
I'd love to have that speech thing from FL, though. Man that was cool. A lot better than Microsoft Sam.
Oh, and I wish there was an award for collest monicker on KVR. Flamingjammies? You would win. I was rolling on the floor with that one.

yes, they have it just like midi clips not only at their right side but also at their left side - I guess I begged long enough for thatLunch Money wrote: Do the audio clips have slip editing yet, even?

Okay, there have been various posts talking about how great eXT is, but I still have no idea how so. Nobody has made any clearly defined points (tasks) that it can do that could not be done with Tracktion.
Also, running within Tracktion, how much does it add to the CPU overhead?
Just cause something is cool or fun doesn't make it software I would like. What is cool and fun to me is sitting at my keyboard and playing music and the less time spent on software the better
No offense, maybe eXT would be something I would like to work with midi. I just would like to hear more real and specific uses, not just vague statements.
Thanks, this is a useful forum

Hey pd,
I know what you mean... sorry if the thread's getting derailed or whatever. For me, eXT's main appeal is still the 'extras' that comes with it. I prefer Tracktion as a sequencing environment, but eXT includes a preset breeder, a sampler and beatslicer, an arpeggiator/chorder, and a tidier piano roll for MIDI. In terms of sequencing, Tracktion is still superior (for me) in almost every way. However, eXT has folder tracks for audio (if you need to comp parts or select between different takes, and it just keeps everything neater), which is a good feature.
SOOooo... I still encourage people to check out eXT, even if (like me) you can't quite figure out the sequencer comp.
Greg

Speaking for myself, I'm a bit of a control freak and, in other circumstances, could see myself becoming very fond of Ext. However, it comes when I already feel I spend too much time exploring the possibilities of Synthedit, and far too long after I totally fell in love with the Tracktion way of doing things.
Maybe I'll check Ext out one day, but meanwhile, Jens: don't you think its the teeniest bit impolite to be continually posting huge screenshots of a rival sequencer? This is the RMS forum after all.. I wonder why you still hang out here if Ext fits your needs so perfectly?

but I'd do the same with Tracktion in the eXT-forum if there were people mentioning it while saying things about it I feel are at least partly wrong.
and about that last question - is it directed towards me or is it just a rhetoric one?

As Greg said: eXT has a lot of additional features, like the arps, sampler, slicer, and it can be nested (VST inside standalone). It's totally modular and also very useful for standalone use (e.g. build a nice effect layout to jam with guitar or piano or vocals). Synthedit is a good comparison, except that eXT is not a synth.pdxindy wrote:Just cause something is cool or fun doesn't make it software I would like. You could use eXT in addition to Tracktion as an arp, slicer, sampler, etc. I think a lot of people use it that way... Two features eXT has in the sequencer that Tracktion doesn't have (and that I missed after switching from Muzys to Tracktion) are track folders and patterns, where you can copy parts and they remain linked.
btw. I'm fully aware that this is the RMS forum, I'm not trying to move people away from Tracktion

Really? I think it's quite simple-- the same things that drew a lot (not all) of people to Tracktion has drawn them to eXT. That means that there's a lot of overlap in the user base, and a lot of us that can (and choose to) comment intelligently on both.rpc9943 wrote:I still dont get how ext became the hijack

Don't be intentionally thick, Ron. My post already acknowledged that there are better forums for discussing eXT, but merely answered the question YOU asked, which is "why?". I gave you a why, which was an accurate and sensible explanation for 'why' (the question YOU asked).
If what you really wanted to say was, "I think eXT talk should be limited to the eXT forum," then just say it. Don't ask for an "honest" explanation "why" it comes up in conversation on THIS forum.
