So true. Someone once asked Larry Crane (of Tape op, Jackpot studios, etc) how he got such a great drum sound on a record he engineered. His response: "Well, I think you should probably ask the guy who played the drums"

You don't need that much to get the 'Hook sound'. Just about any decent chorus pedal will do the trick. Hook plays with a pick; slapping and all that other crap is out. Well, except on 'Perfect Kiss'; you can watch the video to see the intro bass part. Oh, and play high up on the neck: you're playing leads, not thumping out root notes.
