i thought with this set up you needed to conect all the cards up using a digital clock - which means for the audiophile you gain 2 analogue ins/outs and lose two digital ones

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

No, your not dense, in order to use the cards simultaneously for recording you will have to sync them somehow. Some cards have a seperate clock connection, some use spdif.ericj23 wrote:i thought with this set up you needed to conect all the cards up using a digital clock - which means for the audiophile you gain 2 analogue ins/outs and lose two digital ones

Among other oddities, yes. The number of combinations of possible hardware makes it very difficult to sort out sometimes. Usually what happens is that you are using settings that work great for one of the cards but totally suck for another. Typically you have to use the settings for the weakest card. But even then it doesn't mean that it won't conk out the better of the cards by doing so.tweakin wrote:Ok, by hit and miss, do you possibly mean clicks randomly though the audio perhaps?
Yes, I've played with several different shareware/freeware ASIO implementations. I've also played with a few of the WDM ones. Cruise to sourceforge sometime. You will find lots of useful utils.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I play with those drivers because I can download the code and see what they are doing with the audio and device calls. Very educational.

Cool- thanks heaps for the tips.. I so wish I had a background in (or at least a vague knowledge of) programming!!! Doh!!SJ_Digriz wrote:I play with those drivers because I can download the code and see what they are doing with the audio and device calls. Very educational.
Spose, that's never stopped me diving in and fixing my own problems in the past, so I might have to bite the bullet and learn.
What 'kind' of utils would you be referring to that I may find useful? Or should I get flush with interpreting the code first?
