To my eyes, it just goes to show you just how good the original Tracktion colors are. None of the options is as easy to stare at for long periods as the original. I think it was carefully chosen to begin with. It's a bit strange when you first look at it (people glance at it and think it's some bubblegum shareware), but it really is easy to look at.

some people might have an aversion to institutional green, though

after a certain point of adjusting for subtlety, it is the gazer who must make the adjustment

I, too, use the Tracktion original for a while. I like my schemes just as well or better. I don't like the preset scheme all that much, either, but Grey and Red is just as easy on the eyes as the original, along with deviated and Steel and Orange.
I think you need to give some of them another try. Mully's Cream (I smack my forehead every time I say that) is pretty nice, as well.
Except for my admittedly ugly ones, (ie. Nasty Garden), I always checked to make sure contrast was sufficient but not harsh, and that I could stare at them for prolonged periods of time.

Some of these new color schemes disable the ability to color code clips in the edit...anybody else finding this? I haven't been able to find the parameter in the color editor that fixes this yet (help?)

The potential is there and I believe we will see great new color schemes in the future.
I am working on a pastel brown earth tone but it is very time consuming and it might take a while but eventually it will be perfect (at least for my eyes)

tibenmik:
How is this for bizzarre (but funky and cool at the same time)...
If you set the alpha to maximum and set the colour to maximum saturation (e.g., pure red), you will get pure <whatever color the clip is in the clip context settings>.
So set the alpha to 0 and the colour to white, or try playing around with those settings a bit. I managed to get all the colour out of them that way.

I made myself a "colour scheme tester" which had clips of all colours, enabling me to ensure that colour-coding worked.
Also, while not all elements respond well to alpha-blending (the VST window title bar doesn't like them, and the CPU meter), I used alpha blending on a known working element, and then used a colour picker app to get the "real" colour of the pixel, which I then re-applied to the non-alpha-friendly channel, thus eliminating the need for true alpha blend.
Sidhu-- cheers.
