Really? I don't think that Propellerheads would agree with your analysis there, having just released the latest in the line of bug free versions of one of the world's best-selling pieces of music software.valley wrote: public betas are tantamount to commercial suicide.

No software is bug-free, NOT even Reason. Just check their site for all the bug reports. It is more stable, because there is literally NO 3rd party software or standards to support. Of course there's going to be less bugs.
I like the way Mackie has done it. With a public beta, you run into a major problem. EVERYONE thinks everything they find is a problem. They automatically decide it's not their machine, and report it. And others will gripe that their requests are not being heard, thinking that the company should listen to them above others and "fix" EVERYTHING they want fixed. It can become a hastle dealing with all the ones who are mistaking bugs for bad setup, as well as dealing with egos. Plus, with a software like Tracktion, too many people will suggest how something doesn't work like their other sequencer, and think that because of that it must be a bug, therefore losing site of what makes T what it is.
Keep it the way it is. It's best that way.

I don't see loads of bug reports on their site, and I've never personally experiened any bug in Reason. In Tracktion there are some very annoying bugs, the worst of which appear not to have been fixed even in this major revision that is T2 (e.g. the MIDI note dropping bug and the Rewire bug, both repeatedly reported over the last two years, no less!).koolkeys wrote:No software is bug-free, NOT even Reason. I took part in the Reason 3.0 public beta and can vouch from the regular feedback on the beta-tester site that Propellerheads were able to knock out several hundred bugs before releasing the software to a paying public.
I think that has immense integrity, and contrary to Valley's claim, I don't see their sales figures suffering as a result.

I know 4 licences that wont be gettin upgraded. So thats atleast a sales drop of .0001%.

Seriously though (and I know you don't much like the way Reason has developed, AD80
) ...It is widely reported that in the States, over the last year Reason sold 10 times the combined sales of Cubase, Logic and Sonar put together.
One reason for its popularity is that it is very reliable, stable, has low CPU and no crippling bugs (unlike most music software). And the policy of exhaustive public beta testing is one way that the Props are ensuring their standards stay that way.
If you have not had problems with Tracktion's MIDI note dropping or Rewire bugs, that's good news for you. If you've never needed to explain to students that their project doesn't work because the software is faulty, that's good for you too. If you are happy for the prifce of Tracktion to rise by 250% without long-standing bugs being fixed, that's your choice.
But surely it's OK to at least comment on bugs here? If somebody is 90% happy - but not 100% - is that moaning?
