Yikes! Will you be creating bigger, more established music?
 Only if I put aside bigger, more established time
Best of luck over there in DX land. Maybe we'll see you back here same time next year for T3: Perfect MIDI Implementation Edition. 8)
Maybe so!

Actually, I find Adobe Audition outstanding for multitrack audio recording, editing, mixing and mastering. And as I also have and like Live 4 and Reason, I may not *need* any "replacement" for Tracktion anyway.

But I was tipped off to give Sonar a more concerted look, having only brushed with the demo of S3 in the past. There's been the odd pm where Tracktion users from here have compared notes on Sonar as an alternative  .

I think I might actually enjoy the challenge of mastering a program like Sonar, but it's certainly not decided as far as I'm concerned - just looking!

ModuLR wrote: Regards to the feature requests... well Sonar was Cakewalk ProAudio.. and before that it was Cakewalk Professional for DOS. There were 9 versions under that guise prior to Sonar which is at v4. That's 13 full versions... in 1987 cakewalk released Cakewalk Professional v2. They have a long history. It's simply not fair to compare a program which began as a homebrewed project a little over 2 years ago. Tracktion is very much so in it's infancy. I'm opting to go for the ride... it's great software. With time, I have faith it will find very original and clever solutions to more common approaches in other sequencers.. but it's simply going to require a great deal of patience.
Hey ModuLR! I know you're right about it being an unfair comparisson, and can also see that for somebody with your knowledge and skills "going for the ride" would be fun. You have made some great contributions which I know many of us have appreciated. 8)

For a general user and muso like me, though, it's not really important whether a program was written by a teenage hacker last week or by Charles Dickens in 1873. All that really matters is whether it works as advertised, and offers the features that the customer want.

I still think that Tracktion is a fantastic program, and will be sad to walk away at this stage. Although I've had a few moans about the demo (and some here will probably be relieved to see me gone!), in general I've had a very positive time using Tracktion, and am optimistic for its future.

You're also right about "a great deal of patience", and that's probably the problem for me. After what seems like a long wait, T2 has proved to be a case of "too little, too late". But T3 could be spectacular 8)

Cheers, mod.

True, I did check your suggestions carefully...
im now SURE this IS the issue (maybe for some reason T2 is hooking the ozonic in behind the scenes) and it would help everyone if you could maybe work with us testers and jules on nailing this ...
After all the help I've received here I would of course be more than happy to help in any way I can. Anything you wish me to check out I will, and I hope a solution will be found. PM to let me know any further ideas you have.

have you contacted him directly ???
I understood from valley that the beta testers are collating any problems and issues that are reported on this forum. Also I think that djsubject, who has been very helpful, may have reported it directly. Should I do anything else?

If you get Sonar4 Producer, you can do 5.1 surround. That's pretty damn cool all by itself. It's a lot more $$ than Tracktion though.

Thanks braj. I don't have a 5.1 setup here. Nor am I interested in the video thumbnail... although Audition has both these feaures anyway if I did need them.

I think that the Sonitus FX suite, Lexicon reverb, MPEX timescaling and POWR dithering would persuade me to pay the extra for the Producer Edition though.

With T2's price increase, S4 Studio is only a few $$ more than Tracktion, so they are moving towards a place of more direct comparisson from a consumer's point of view.

I agree with your earlier point about having two track lanes for MIDI out/Audio return... especially when you start drawing automation curves on top of them! Another Tracktion user looking at the Sonar demo pointed out to me that you can shove them both into a "Folder Track" though, which apparently makes more sense.

Post

Yeah, you can use folder tracks but still, the whole app just feels klunky and overly complex to me. I don't like it's mixer and way of dealing with plugins in that master list. I had strange issues trying to record audio as well. IMO there are just too many weird little things about it's bussing etc that can get set weird and act in ways I found stressful. I also don't like a lot of stuff about it's UI, the per track controls don't resize gracefully and I felt like I was always fighting with one aspect or another during my extensive demo'ing, both v3 and v4. I wish it handled tracks more like Logic, where you don't need all those redundant tracks. But I'm certain if you are willing to invest the time, it would be extremely powerful. I just found I really couldn't make that investment.

Thanks braj. I haven't got to grips with the Sonar mixer yet, but remember I'm only "browsing" alternatives at the moment, so I haven't committed as much time as you probably did.

For me, Audition + Live 4.1 (working SO much better now for me in terms of CPU) + Reason + Sibelius provides a good package all around. I could only justify investing in Sonar if I really felt it would be the jewel in the crown alongside these other applications.

i personally think audition is NOT good for multitrack. It's best left as an audio editor. Too buggy, vst support is very lame and very buggy... I barely use it now

Ah. That explains why he didn't write any software then.

I've not had any problems at all. Perhaps we use different VSTs?
