This is just a variant of UNDO. Not enough if you remove one part of the clip and want to glue the sorrounding parts together. Not enough if you take out one segment and insert it in a different place. For example replace a bad note (consert) with the corresponding from the next verse or a different take (rehersal). drag the corner markers out, and you'll see the rest of the file still hiding there. you can stretch back as much of it as you like.
I'm not making this up for the argument. I actually do this... It would be nice to have more powerful non destructive editing tools than T1 has. I doubt much happened here in T2. As long as the hiss is there it is unusable for audio. The hiss can be tens of dB louder than the music... I do classical music. I've put T2 away until it can be unlocked and actually used.
