Isn't there a concern that - once it comes to get an album mastered - using it to get that "sweet sound" will leave less elbow room for the mastering engineer?

(Just a thought. I love this plug-in, actually)

lets hear some samples with and without guys!

Ditto to that! Some of us are on the fence about buying it.

i like the GUI of this plugin. it sounds cool in the demo but the beep drives me absolutely nuts as mentioned in this thread already. but hats off to these guys for selling it at an affordable price, they might have my sale soon.

yes, it does tend to make it sound more 'professional', doesn't it?

 (True! True! I actually hate the GUI, it's way too tempting to play around with - instead of using my ears...)

well the image helps a lot, but it's those demos on the website that show the thing has some serious kick to it!

my only debate when buying something like this is the worry that i will squash all my mixes like i've done with many plugs in the past.

i think when you get your album mastered you will want to submit mixes that do not have any sort of these plugins on them. i think most people would use this thing to replace a mastering engineer and do it themselves

Post

I really don't think you can completely replace a mastering engineer unless you have enough experience your self but seriously, the more I am using spectralive I am thinking other wise. Well done crysonic.

It's cheap enough to take a chance on and it does add an extra dimension to a mix and to individual sounds. All things in moderation.

...actually, my feeling is that this fancy-looking plugin is perfect for hobbyists that are *not* really good at mixing and mastering (because some ppl simply did not invest the enormous amount of time that it would take to really learn the mastering tricks).
So, for those musicians that spend more time just playing and recording their good old instruments than trying to become a sophisticated audio engineer, this effect works for them. They plug Spectralive in their master bus and abracadabra, it sounds more "professional", or radio-like and less "home-recorded".
(just my opinion :-)

That's exactly what I'm thinking. It just wasn't sure from the developer's copy whether it's intended to replace mastering, or if you could justify using that as a finalizer before mastering. Which seems a little crazy.

That being said, this kind of "warm", scooped sound could be really useful on individual tracks, like DiscoDSP's ThrillMe, or PSPVintageWarmer, providing that analog-smeared sound. I'd probably put a strong EQ after to shave off lows and highs.

Hell, for $25, it might be worth it just as a Winamp plug!

yeah and those other plugs you mentioned are triple the price! so this is a pretty easy decision for me.
the demo added a nice sparkle to the sounds that i threw into it so im going to buy.

i know mastering engineers shreek at the idea of us buying these things to sort of replace them(there's an ad out there that says mastering yourself is like pulling teeth on your own or whatever)... but im not going to a mastering facility anytime soon so the 30 bucks CDN spent aint going to hurt anyone.

it is sad though that the new state of music is that louder is better. as much as we want to curb this trend it just doesnt work. your music needs a warm punch to it and you can still maintain dynamics if you're good.

nice weather in our city lately eh BDuffy?

yes i thought maybe this was the case, but you can never be to sure on these forums!

mmhm, i also play with the thought of purchasing it...it increases the value of the mix really audibly correspondingly, and this proportionally for little money...but i'm still at this testing - can recommend it at the moment :D ... ciao
