J_Starner wrote:Greetings once again everyone. I'm looking around for a trance gate, and nothing else. No synth or anything, but just a VST dedicated to a trance gate. I'm working on some pads and I need it for one. Also, does anyone know if it is possible to have a trance gate go at a normal rate then sort of slow down, like gradually slow down. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Does your synth have tempo locked Square LFO's that can modulate AMP ?
If so why do you need one.
Program the Pad set LFO tempo Sync to ON.
Set a SQ LFO to modulate AMPLITUDE at 100%.
If the synths well designed you should be able to tweak the rate knob in realtime and have it switch to variable clock divisors for Pad gating effects.
If you have a mutlistage envelope the locks to tempo also you can program a fancy envelope curve and use it as a mod source for LFO rate for all sorts of fancy tricks.
Or do the old skool side chain gate with a drum loop input for example for for more fancy rythmic gating effects.
Lots of ways to achieve this as is if you use a bit of lateral think.
In live I could just draw my own multi tempo divisor Volume clip envelop and have it be as fancy as I want with minimal extra CPU overhead for example etc etc etc etc ....

I don't think FL has this. I would like to try out the gating effect on drums too. Could you elaborate on that for me? It seems pretty advanced.
--------
Scamme I like the idea of gating seperately in both left and right channels that will really come in handy for me. I really like the idea jackle&hyde had for his too, when it gets done make us aware, I would be quick to try it myself. I want to try some experiments with these on drums also, but i'm not sure how that works.

schuzzput is really the best for gating on drums, imo - and it really works wonders
I use it on just about everything.
You see, unlike most trancegates, schuzzput 6.5 has attack/decay controls to control how much of the sound gets cut out (if you're using FL you can use its in-built wet and dry to control the base level). Also, it has shuffle! And besides that, it's just plain great.
I mean, not only is great for synth pads and such, but the way a gate like schuzzput 6.5 works with drums is astounding. By carefully choosing what you cut short and what you play long and what you keep silent, you can emphasize different parts of the rhythm and really bring out the punchiness in a way that a compressor can only attempt to imitate.
It's also great on basslines - you want it deep, but you feel it's too heavy? Go for schuzzput to dice it up a little, and sprinkle it out - it'll sound much nicer! Are you using a sample or preset with a muddy attack, but want to give it motion? Use SCHUZZPUT to give it the motion, without having to trigger the samples attack phase at all!
Granted, there are a few improvements that could be made to schuzzput (more precise control, for instance - I'd like to have in between a dot and a dash) and it doesn't do what you're asking about the changing speed unless you change the tempo (it does have some problems reacting to turbulent tempo markings, but it always catches up on the measure-mark) but etc

I've been using Gatemask. I haven't messed with automation, but it's the most usable I've found.

Two of my favorites:

Both can take you well beyond simple gating.

Take a look at CamelSpace, there is a demo you can try on the website.
Eight seperate 16 step patterns routable to Volume (trance gate), Pan, MultimodeFilter. Adjustable synced length of pattern (I think what you are referring to as speed), can chain patterns together to create up to a 128 step pattern. Control over attack, sustain and decay of the steps... looks like this...

Hope that's of help

CamelSpace: From the name I assumed it was a reverb or something (not sure why) so ignored it until now.Jim Dude wrote:Take a look at CamelSpace
I use it all the time, and the lite version too just for plain old gate effectsRellik wrote:schuzzput is really the best for gating
