.."Its made in Synthedit"..

It's cheating.
You are not really playing the music, the computer does.

well the ideal situation is to have bought - best of bought worlds-

its actually talent dat is the cheese sumthin will come out of vst within the next 2 years dat will be cool and will shut up all the hardware babies

to me its only since 2005 dat software has equalled pro standard hardware -so em yeah

u cant impress people by just buying some 20 yr piece of software dat prince used on x album

observe

"yeah man i just picked up an enventide harmonizer for 800 bucks at a fleamarket"

---vs--

"yeah man i just found octamed three on a 5-1/2 inch in a bin"

i just remembered another guy i met (a guitarist) who came over to record some guitars for me. He was surprised to see my setup (or lack of) ie. a computer and a midi keyboard and said 'yeah this stuff is great but for professional use forget it' I could have had one of the biggest arguments of my life right there and then but i chose to let it slide. Some people are completely blinded by the word 'professional' and they drop it all the time without realising what it actually means. Professional as i understand it means that u make a living from whatever it is that you do. So if you're a music professional that means you live from the money that u make from music (if you're lving off free beers for gigs from local gigs i wouldnt classiy that as pro). but.. professional can mean different things.. professional can mean puff daddy's expensive studio, or it can mean daniel beddingfield's computer, on which he used the making waves program to make his 'gotta get thru this' UK #1 single. Now i'm sure he made a fine living out of that #1 hit, so that would make him a professional. Look at the charts now... Axel F anyone? you could make that song with a minimalist pc setup, and would have had the hit and made money off it. So that would make you a professional too. So getting back to this guitar dude.. he doesnt understand the concept of technology and progress and so immediately dismisses plugins as toys. They may be toys, but the big boys use them too..

i live in a town of around 48,000, but the only musicians i meet are old horn blowers (i wonder where the music went). i didn't know there was an anti-software crowd. i'll be sure to laugh if i ever meet the type.

i've asked the local music store (which stays in biz by catering to churches and schools) why they don't deal in computer oriented products. they told me they have no idea what i'm talkin about.

are ppl dumb where you live? i can't imagine anyone around here could figure out music software.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I can relate - I live in a small town in Ireland and the guys in the music stores dont know what to make of me  I had to get my E-Bow from Dublin...

Thankfully all my muso mates love the fact that they can record themselves on the family PC with a very small outlay... Im often asked for advice

The only thing that bothers me is folks are impressed with big words like Pro Tools - although I did meet a cool guy that wont use anything except FLStudio because he likes it and gets work done...

typcal stuff...(for analog emulations)
sound cold, not fat enough, not enough bass(low frequency).

oh.. these days I hear a lot of " software doesn't cut through the mix like hardware stuff"

and most of these guys I met doesn't even know how to program a simple patch.
all they use is presets then these guys praise on MINIMOOG for fat sound.
and they can't even make a sound on minimoog.

I want an instrument, not a toy.

'VST's are good to jot a few ideas down with - if you're not near a toy piano'. :bang:
