FinalMix compared to?

Couldn't agree more, Greg - there's really no definitive answer (partly because solely software mastering isn't a pro solution yet). Just try a few things and you'll figure out what works for you.

Oh, and if you're SERIOUS about it, go to a pro, as was suggested earlier. If you're not going to a pro, I can't see any of the above plugs doing significantly better than any other, so use the bundled freebie!

It's true, there's nothing like going to a pro, if you have the rexources to do so. Being able to have a several hundred thousand dollar acoustically treated room with tens of thousands of dollars in gear and software, where even the main listening position has been created using lasers to get the best position. It's something that you just can't beat.

However, if you can't afford that, it's great to have something like FM. It definately adds a great amount of value to Tracktion. And I use it in every track. I personally like it better than the Waves plugins(though I don't own them, I have used them before). And I don't know of another host that has a better set of compressors then Tracktion. So it allows you to have all this on a tight budget, which is fantastic! I can't wait for the reverb and such. Exciting times!

Well, it's a reverb. It's coming soon. ;) What else can someone know? <chuckle>

In the not distant future, an effect will join the Tracktion family. It simulates the sound of an enclosed space... a "reverberation emulator" if you will.

Enough detail for ya?

I've even heard that with this new technology you can set how large you want the room to be! Now THAT would be cool!

Pffft... next you're going to tell me you can adjust things like the so-called "early" and "late" reflections? Or damping on the reverberated signal?

This isn't Space Trek, you know.

I've been pleasantly surprised by FinalMix, but GEQ-7, NWEQ, and Posihfopit have the EQ beat, IMO. I keep that switched out and use the 3 Band. The dynamics presets are really well thought out. I agree with the previous statements that this was a serious company and they had audio smarts. Too bad they folded but I guess us Tracktion users got the better end of that deal.

Oh, I thought we were talking about REVERB, you know, that effect which makes singers sound better...?

No, that's called "Autotune". ;) Totally different thing.

Frippertronix-- they didn't 'fold' per se, they were folded into Mackie Plug-ins as an active and continuing division. I have to watch the terminology I use! :o

Oh, so they still develop. Good. Still, though, the Mackie buy out was a lucky break for us if FinalMix was really in the $300 range.

It is (for the foreseeable future) a fixture of my dynamics mixdown arsenal, along with WWAYM Dynamix and Soniformer 2.

Absolutely, still an active part of the Mackie family. Acuma Labs was part of Loud Technologies/Mackie since before Tracktion joined the family-- the Acuma Labs had developed the plug-ins for a Mackie product whose name currently escapes me. Kind of like a UAD-type thing, if I'm not totally going crazy and losing my memory. With the discontinuation (I think! There's the memory thing again!) of that hardware product, the software got ported to plug-in format and moved into the scope of the Tracktion and Mackie Plug-ins divisions.

I'm totally just making shit up and am NOT AT ALL certain about the factual veracity of all this... but it's how things strike me as how they may have occurred.

Kind of like that fling I may or may not have had with Charlize Theron last summer which may or may not have been just a daydreamed figment of my imagination.

Yea, I understand. I still have pics of me and Mira Sorvino drinking our way through the postcard hamlets of the French Riviera last summer but I seem to have misplaced them. :hihi: 8)

I actually went to Mackie to check (wishful thinking) for a new improved T2 and saw the plugs by Acuma and the card you mentioned (it still appears to be current and Mackie is selling plugs only for that card, nothing native I can see so the ports were only for the Tracktion bundles, if I'm seeing straight).

And.... :-o  :help: :o , lordy these plugs are not cheap. Unless this is a turbo-charged DSP version of FinalMix for about $340 U.S. (was $400  :?:  ),then we really did luck out and it just drives it home that T2 is one of the best s/w deals to come along in many moons.

8) 8)
