Media player sounds like the culprit to me. Make sure you've turned off all plugins in Media Player - I use version 9 at work and I have to make sure I turn off the WOW factor slider. I use Winamp at home with no EQ, and renders sound as comparable as possible before rendering in T and after sending to .wav in Winamp.
