Trash can icon for dragging/dropping filters?

yeah, everytime this gets brought up i feel a void in my head when i try to imagine finding myself wanting such a feature. still, it's a simple enough request to have it delete a filter when you drop it back on the 'new filter' icon. i'd be personally pretty annoyed if a pointless 'trash can' icon appeared on the screen, to serve no purpose other than as a drag target. if i want to remove a filter, i want to destroy it there and then, not carry it out to the skip.

Yeah I agree Haydxn that adding another icon is not necesary and I too find it hard to justify new features when there are perfectly good ways of doing it now (i.e. using the delete button). But I do think that it should have been implemented in the first place with a drag and drop method of removing filters, and dragging one back to the filter icon makes the most sense to me. That doen't mean that it will be top of the list for Tracktion3 though.

You do know that you can set the DELETE key to just pass through as normal, right?

All keymaps in MKey are user editable, and a couple of things you can do are:

1) set the key to react like a piano key (the reason most people use MKey).

2) set the key to be ignored by MKey (the host will receive that key as if MKey was inactive, but other keys will be trapped as normal be MKey).

3) set the key to transmit an alternate keystroke (you could, for example, have the pause key act as a delete key if the delete key is already part of your piano map).

I have the solution.

When dragging the filter, the new filter icon turns into a trash can.

Very often when quick editing I have one hand on the mouse and one on my pianokeyboard at the same time. Therefore, it would be good not to having to using both hands on mouse (pointing at the filter) and keyboard (pressing the deletekey) to get rid of a filter, and just use the mouse and drag n drop.

I like the idea of dragging and sending the filter home where it came from, it´s smart.

and if you haven't got a right mouse button then it's your own silly fault!

You know what, this isn't even all that bad an idea. You drag the icon somewhere, anywhere, and as long as it's not in a legal target area (ie. right over top of a clip, or in the filter area of another track), the icon gets exxed out or changes shape or something similar, and when you let go of your mouse button it gets shit-canned.

Myself, I'll stick to the delete button; however, for the mouse people, this seems like a good solution. That, or 'sending it home' to the filter icon.

someone suggested before that simply popping it out and putting it in an invalid area should delete it. myself, i would literally hate for that to happen. why? accidentally pick up and drag the wrong filter somewhere, currently you can just let go in some un-target-like place and it will cancel the operation. otherwise, you'd have to go back to where it came from and 'put it back' there. the only safe thing to do would be to have an actual 'removal' target, and the 'new filter' icon is as good a place as any.

i think rather than a trashcan it should become a swirling vortex to fling your unused filter into! :D

That would be sweet. Instead of just glowing, it turns into an angry hellish void. :D
