Most of the anti-Reason posts here go well beyond good natured ribbing mate... If that were the case, I think fewer people who actually use/like Reason would take far less exception to those types of attack.

Personally, I don't like being told that I must be a fukcing brain-dead moron to even consider the fact that Reason might be a perfectly viable piece of music making software.

Or monkey, for that matter.
I don't like Orion, but I don't think (all) orion users are monkeys.

har har.. you got me on a technicality

taking 'host' completely out of context by dragging in an other Prop software that's linked using REWIRE!!

aren't you the smart one

I guess that kind of sums up the amazing depth and intellect of the anti-Reason argument so far

I love Reason and will always love it. Simply because i can run DOZENS of instruments, samplers and stuff without ever hitting the 50% CPU mark. THAT is why it rocks. period. :D

I recently posted these tracks which I did in Reason alone:

[by the way, any feedback about the tracks would be very much appreciated!!]

At the expense of sound quality. Don't get me wrong, i agree with you but Reason sounds like a tinker toy to me.
And i know people say it's all in the produciton and blah blah blah but you know, if you master and produce a sound that sounds like a tinker toy guess what, it's still going to sound like a tinker toy only it will be a louder, more fuller sounding tinker toy.
I've said it before, you can get a casio at circuit city or a jupiter 8. Which do you think will sound better regardless of mastering?

If you use samples sounds exclusively, then maybe you can get somewhere. Reason, at the least, makes one hell of an awesomw drum module. If only it were VST.

I have been using Reason as my main musical app for about two years now. Its a great program and it works well for what it does.

However, a few months ago I realised that I didn't like rewiring to get some vocals or longer length synth pieces. Its pretty cumbersome and its not altogether reliable, in both Tracktion and Live.

So I switched almost exclusively to Live with real synths and VSTi. My take on this can be summed up simply, Live with a select few VSTi will sound better than Reason.

This is not because Reason has a sound of its own... its just that Reason's synths have a certain distinctive sound. And just like I wouldn't do a whole album with one synth, I don't want to do a whole album with Reason.

Reason's saving grace was its excellent sampler, and I spent quite some time using this to import audio into Reason. But this is a workaround, and I find tracking directly into Live is much easier for me.

I have abandoned Reason for pretty much everything now. I'll hang onto it, if only to see what the Props come up with next.

Pharaoh, sounds as if you've been listening to the wrong songs. The ones I've heard from advanced to expert Reason users are anything but tinker-toy sounding.

Dig: we're not. We get excellent value for our money. BONES gets good value from his investment in Orion. I wouldn't dream of saying "I don't understsand why you spent money on a program that I didn't feel increased my creative power," because for him it's the right thing.

Yeah, I'll say. Pretty funny shit coming from someone who is making an issue out of some people's loose usage of the word "host" on this forum.

Bones, I'm not going to bother with all the quoting as I must have hit a sore spot with you to see you go through that much trouble to berate an instrument you know little about. I will address the fact that I can listen to your music without trying to "understand where your coming from". Why do I "care"? All I have to do is listen to it and I can "hear" that I don't like where its "coming from" or where its going next.

As for writing my own synth, that's a pretty ignorant thing to say when somebody calls your baby ugly. I don't need to write my own, I'm just stating I don't want to use yours. I don't have the ability to make yours sound good, and from what I've heard from them, neither does anybody else

Yeah, the props bypass the VST/AU/Whateverelse paradigm, but you know what? Its their choice to do so. They can pretty much do whatever they want and so can you. The fact that people are buying it and using it speaks for the business model, same as Microsoft. Ignoring their success by saying Orion is "underground" and that's "133t" is ridiculous as well. If it HAD the features that people wanted, then it would SELL more, but since it DOESN'T, then it WON'T. Some people will use it, but most won't. Sorry to point out the obvious.

Your personal attacks consistently confirm your inept ability to make a decent argument, especially about something you admit you know very little about.

Personally, I think if you'd switch to Reason, the quality of your music would go up...way up. You could make your type of music with reason 2.0 and be just fine. I'd say making an investment in quality tools is better than piecing together a bunch of subpar things you make yourself. If you enjoy making them, that's great! I hope you have fun. But they just don't sound that great. You're better off picking up a second hand copy of R2.0 and take your stuff to the next level.

Who cares? onion may have been very groundbreaking and innovative, but it didn't make an impact. Perhaps it was a good idea in its time, badly promoted? Like several others, I tried it and though it was utter... well, not for me
If those two products aren't incredibly similar concepts to Reason, I don't know what is.
I don't think that FL is at all like Reason. FL has relatively very poor sample content, no decent sampler (until recently... now if you choose you can pay loads extra for Directwave), it doesn't have a linear approach to sequencing but is pattern based, it doesn't have the same modular routing, etc... nope, I see very little similarity.

As for onion, it seems to me to be a blend between FLs pattern-based workflow and Reason's look/colour scheme. However groundbreaking you feel it originally was, it certainly doesn't stand out from the crowd anymore.
