tomg: why would you want to insert a filter *before* a track?? in other words why edit an input stream destrucively when you can do the exact same thing non-destructively with a filter after the data??

It looks like they've given up on making a great sequencer and entered the Acid wannabe camp. I've had this damn thing for 3 years and I've never done one song with it. I might even sell it for $1 'cause that's about all I think it's worth. I've had eXT for less than 6 months and I've got 14 or 15 complete tunes.

Everytime I sit down with eXT I leave with something I want to keep. I can't say that about anything else. Cubase used to crash and take my music with it. Then I'd just shut down the computer and leave dejected and empty handed. Tracksion has been even worse because I can't get anything done at all with it. It might be great for recording bands and now the Acid kiddies but that ain't me.

Every now and then I use it to assemble and normalize wave files into a soundtrack but I've got Audition and really wouldn't care if T2 went away altogether. I don't even have it installed anymore. My advice is spend your money somewhere else. Mackie doesn't care or midi would have been fixed years ago. I'm a little bitter about this and I'm not all that happy with Steinberg either but Cubase is out of my life. I still have T2 for the time being.

This is known as "finding the tool that works for you" and it is why different products exist by different manufacturers. People like different things and have different needs. The thing to do when you figure that out is to go and happily use the one you like and stop trying to make a square peg fit a round hole.

The thing NOT to do is find the tool that works for you, then go on a forum about a tool that doesn't work for you, and complain that it doesn't work for you, and why don't they change it so it's more like the other thing you've found that works for you, that already exists, that you already own, that you could be using to do the things you need to do.

Because that is known as "completely f**king pointless".

I'm amazed how many people miss the above.

I don't know why people are getting bent out of shape, Beno said that the list was just some of the new features, and that more will be announced. And that list basically looked like it was copied/pasted right out of the most frequent user requests.

And if I complained about every host that had terrible handling of time sig changes (Cubase/Nuendo, Pro Fools, Sonar, etc.), I'd be a very busy man posting in all of those forums about how terrible it is to need to manually type the tempo change for each section, and then if I edit the song, need to open up that list, do the math, and re-type the bars/beats for every tempo change again...they must be frikkin kidding me. Tracktion was the first to let you drag those changes in your edit view, and now they've taken it to a level that the other big sequencers would take 5 new versions to catch up with.

Incidentally, the T3 features there pretty much match my needs perfectly. I am about as excited as a little kid the day before Christmas :D :D :D

That was all about me and how T2 does not work for me. You can do what you want. It was my opinion... So what? Mackie don't care why should you?

It would probably do you more good to be as happy as a little kid about 6 months before Easter...

Because I'm a guitar player. In my virtual studio. I have virtual guitar effects and amp-sims that I not only play through but perform on.

it was, right up until you advised world and dog to take its money elsewhere. At which point you opted to do the thinking for all of us. Thanks for that.

Doesn't really answer his question though, does it?

Why *record* with the effects applied destructively? You do realise that you *can* play live through Tracktion with effects applied don't you?

That's not even FACTUALLY correct ... You said "My advice is spend your money somewhere else". How is that about you?

That was what Rob was replying to which is why his reply made sense, and yours doesn't. See also, the guitar playing bit
