We're pretty close to discovering life on the relatively nearby planet Mars. We're not far from acknowledging that the universe is to its brim full of life forms. And yet - there will still be millions of christians.... "it's pretty much immaterial", they'll keep on singing.championrabbit wrote:See, I think (for the purposes of stuff like this) it's pretty much immaterial. I've worked with (as a performer) some significant producers/engineers who've recorded some very, very famous records and I would in no way describe them as uniformly informed. Some of them were f**king idiots with barely a clue.alex zonder wrote:For valueing the arguments and experiences in the Pipeline - Kingston debate, it may be interesting for readers to have some info on the participants' professional background
The record and recording industry has a huge number of extremely knowledgeable and skilled people working within it, but also a huge number of utter f**king morons who are bluffing it until the day they are 'found out'. Many of them will never be 'found out'.
I'm not saying that Pipeline is or isn't a clueless idiot, I'm just saying that there are plenty of successful clueless idiots working in professional roles in music recording.
Facts will always be of little importance to people wrapped up in ideologies and personal beliefs; science has had little succes in changing that, alas.

OK guys
I'd like the take the opportunity, and inform you of our latest product :
THE MIGHTY CORN (beta 0.83)
Our engineers formed a new algorithm which helps to emulate a LOT of mental states :
for example : TOTAL RAGE mode (maximum attack and loooooong release. we are still trying to get that catchy "Make-Up" thing to work but we are close !) ; Fussy Mode (mediocre attack, auto release with switchable make-up gain) ; Babe Mode (extremely fast attack, no release whatsoever and of course, the renowned "Heidi Klum's" curves) ; Aloof Mode (Extremely long attacks - btw, thats where our competitors always fail ! - with auto-everything)
You wont be disappointed, fellas !
We say at CornWare :
With our MIGHTY CORN
You ARE reborn !
Some Examples :

Thanks for your time

What do you want to hear? Where popcorn is made of? That hair can never be great in mathematics? That we know more than Jesus did? That some of us are able to code stunning compressor plugins while nobody is able to create an afterlife? That we're still waiting for Kingston's CV as an audio engineer? That I spoke of facts in a context that might be considered as off topic? Gimme some of that corn.championrabbit wrote:What is this 'facts' of which you speak?alex zonder wrote:Facts

you didn't talk about 'quality' - you wrote:Kingston wrote:since when did the number of features become the determining factor of the quality of compression?
Which without a doubt is just plain wrong.Kingston wrote:
reacomp is really just another plain vanilla plugin compressor. It does nothing mjcompressor, or citizenchunk vanilla compressor won't - or any other reasonably flexible dynamics processor for that matter.
You are really only making a fool out of yourself herer, Kingston. All you tried to say was just esoteric bullshit to me. I haven't studied audio-engineering, nor am I a professional engineer as Pipeline is - but I can easily follow Pipeline's explanation and fully understand his points while all your replies just leave me thinking 'wtf is he talking about?' - in other words:
You just generate the idea that your technical knowledge is ultimately superior compared to that of generic mortals like me and that without this knowledge one isn't qualified to even just talk about this stuff.
The real pro the other hand just gives explanations I can follow along.
And reguarly even despite your esoteric words people catch you out on basically posting factually wrong claims - even I did before in a compressor thread (I'll dig it up if you like).
Bmanic without a doubt really knows his stuff. All you manage to prove is that you are extremely arrogant and you kill every single thread you turn up in with this arrogance. I'm really sick of it.

maybe I was hinting that Pipeline could be better positioned to compare the gear in question than Kingston, who might not have used either compressor in real work, even less compared them.

Wow, this thread sure has gotten confusing. People getting defensive, people insulting, people talking religion(for no reason, apparently. Is religion even necessary to bring into this?), people sharing credentials(which don't even mean anything in themselves), etc.
Yet one thing remains. Have any FACTS actually been discussed? This is a great topic, and something that many people probably could learn a lot from. Yet, I haven't seen any proof one way or another. Some people CLAIM that facts back them up, but they have failed to show any, or give any examples. What kind of defense is "You are WRONG" and "Evidence?" or whatever(picking on Pipeline a bit here) when there is nothing to support YOUR side being shown? Saying somebody is wrong and proving it are two different things. And until somebody actually shows something, does it really matter?
Pipeline and Kingston both have experience with these things in one form or another. Pipeline works with the stuff, Kingston programs the stuff(and works with it from what I know), and both are IMO very knowledgeable. But we have gotten nowhere.
Anyways, I'm bored and my wife is gone. So I was hoping to get some learning in. Does anyone have some resources where one can learn some deeper information about this subject? I understand to a point, but don't have the deep understanding of this subject. However, I would like to learn.

jens, I love the way you hold and savor your affectionate grudge against me in misc. threads, for whatever reason. I can't remember why you do it. Maybe we disagreed on something? Maybe you didn't comprehend an arguement? where ever you pop up, it's for this reason alone. I'm touched, but would rather you didn't. Makes me feel somewhat awkward. Like I said to Mardusck (something), I already have a girlfriend.jens wrote:really smart reply...Kingston wrote:oh jesus christ! jens is here.

Even Bmanic got fed up with your behaviour recently and critcized you openly for it and he obviously is much more polite and patient than me and also he knows you personally.
You are the one who is spreading misinformation and got lost in religious craze long ago. I'm a scientist and I love facts, evidence and empirically gathered knowledge. I can clearly say that Pipeline thinks like a scientist as well which is why his posts usually make a lot of sense to me and I hate the way you tried to make him appear like an idiot whoi doesn't know what he's talking about. Also you did this with numerous others before and as I already mentioned a thread often is basically dead as soon as you appear in it.

Well certainly, you must admit, the only hard and concrete fact brought up in this thread, by Kingston, specifically "Mj comp can do everything reacomp can" has been shown to be false.koolkeys wrote: Yet one thing remains. But really what is to prove?
We were having a nice, mostly thread about reacomp, when Kingston came in, unprovoked attacking ME, personally, not the arguments set forth, just straight out saying I dont know what Im talking about.
I don't know that I have to *prove* anything. I would rather just go back to discussing how things like RMS size and detector frequencies affect a compressors behaviour, which is what we were doing before Kingston's personal attacks

I made three presets just for fun, via the "store preset" function. I want to share them, but I cant find where the preset files are stored. They're not in the plugin bundle map. Anyone?
