That occurred to me too, beej (you definitely hear very recognizable loops from Stylus RMX all over the place, especially in TV soundtracks and commercials). I don't suspect that will be as much of an issue with Omni, though, since the way synth patches tend to get blended into the tapestry of a song doesn't make them quite as instantly recognizable as some of RMX's very distinctive loops. And I suspect I'll be getting started playing with Omni's synth engine even before I've gone through the huge collection of factory patches. It will likely take DAYS just to go through the presets and make notes, and I'm probably going to get eager to delve deeper long before that. The only downside to owning Omnisphere on release is that *everyone* else is also going to be using it... (!)
Omnisphere - will it be worth the hype ?

Oh yeah, I hear ya! A few weeks ago, I was working on a song, and I had this great idea to add an acoustic guitar to it. Oh man, it sounded so good and so original. But, then I was at Target and I heard a John Denver song being played over the Muzak system, and HE WAS PLAYING AN ACOUSTIC GUITAR! Oh man, was I ever pi$$ed! So, then I thought, I'll do something truly original on my next piece, so I recorded myself playing the piano, thinking for sure that no one would ever use that sound. But then my wife tells me that some guy name Chopin used a piano on a few of his pieces! So, I gave up on music because, if someone else is going to use the same sound as me (but in a different way), then it's just not worth it.beej wrote:The only downside to owning Omnisphere on release is that *everyone* else is also going to be using it... It depends on how sharp the dealer/distributor is on making sure they have their orders in with us.krraqk wrote:Many questions remain until the release, but at this point maybe one of the most important would be, when it will be in the european stores?, 15/9 or here in Europe it would be something later?
We'll do our best to get them everywhere as quickly as possible, but keep in mind that we don't quite have the distribution power of a company like Apple, that can do a worldwide launch with all the product available in the stores on the same day. They are just a little bigger than us.

SOV is not totally redundant. Remember that the programs from SOV are not currently included. Also, the phrase material is not included. And most importantly, a big difference is that SOV can be used in any sampler that reads AKAI format, so it's an open sample library which has some benefits for some people.Cabinfever wrote:I'm a bit confused about the upgrade policy.
Atmosphere owners will get a mighty discount because Omni includes the Atmosphere library. Very nice. Lots of happy people.
But Omni also includes the SOV library. SOV was a hell of a lot more expensive than Atmosphere and yet it too will now be totally redundant.
Is there anything in this for SOV users ?
This upgrade is for Atmosphere users, because Omnisphere is the future of our popular Atmosphere virtual instrument.
Omnisphere is NOT a new format of SOV (or any other library) by any means, and it's a small part of the overall core library, so upgrading on a per sample library basis doesn't make sense for us to do.
With this particular upgrade, we are looking to reward our Atmosphere/Virtual Instrument customers.

Although tbf there is a slight difference with some synths that have a signature sound or walk through a rythmic patch and you hear somebody hitting a note or chord and then holding it!

And don't even think of adding drums. I heard several songs today and the ALL used them! Sheesh...

Obviously, we've already covered that if you have any sound design experience at all, you will be able to make Omnisphere sound like "you" very easily. And there's a wealth of opportunities for the advanced synthesist to create their own unique voice.Vectorman wrote:That occurred to me too, beej (you definitely hear very recognizable loops from Stylus RMX all over the place, especially in TV soundtracks and commercials). But what if you don't have any experience with sound design/patch programming? Can you get customized results out of Omnisphere?
Yes!!
Here's something really cool and easy that literally anyone can do:
Say you find a factory patch that you really like, but you know everyone on earth also just got Omnisphere (hopefully
Just open the Soundsource browser, hit SHUFFLE and swap out the soundsources with anything that sounds interesting.
Voila! Instant variation that is useful and doesn't sound like any other user.

Wise guy....has an answer for everything. If I didn't know better, I'd say he was trying to sell Omnisphere.

Best of luck with sales Eric, you guys deserve it

Thanks Eric.... But I'm very disappointed to find that we can only get the upgrade from the Spectrsonics web site; this means for anyone outside the US will have to pay taxes and shipping.spectrum wrote:If you can find it.LoopyFruit wrote:Hi Eric
I have both Trilogy and RMX would it be cost effective for me to purchase Atmosphere now to become a VIP or is it to late![]()
Thanks
We stopped shipping Atmosphere a few weeks ago.
I have purchased software from the US in the past only to find it held up in UK Customs and it will not be released until I have paid the duty.

On another note...
New central forum for Spectrasonics
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but I would really like to have just one single forum to access info on all Spectrasonics products. At the moment the info is kind of spread across Northern sounds and Yahoo forums. I really do not like navigating the Yahoo forum at all.
I like the way the guys at Image line provide a far more accessible forum than the one they had before. Cakewalk have a very nice set of forums in one place e.t.c
I just think it would be great to not have to use two forums (or more) to get Spectrasonic feedback, tips, product info...e.t.c it might also mean less Internet air miles for you Eric as well
Seriously though I really think Spectrasonics need their own dedicated forum.
The forum of course could have dedicated areas for RMX, Omni, Atmos and Trilogy. Additonal News, Announcements and Tips areas could follow that.
I think in a very short space of time the info there would be of great interest to many and easily searchable while providing a wealth of info to new and existing users.
The VIP upgrade idea for Spectrasonics users could be extended into a VIP area on the forum. Zynewave have a similar set up.
At the very least though Eric, I really think you guys need a separate central official forum. It could be quite simple to start off and expanded as time goes on.
Perhaps it is something already under consideration at Spectrasonics?
