As an owner (and lover) of Atmosphere & Stylus RMX, I do rate Spectrasonics stuff.

But the hype around Omnisphere (mainly from Spectrasonics themselves) is pretty intense.

How many around here are suitably impressed & planning to purchase ?

As an Atmosphere user, I'll probably upgrade if the price is acceptable (to add another huge piece of software to my collection which needs to be learnt  )

I have been watching Omnisphere closely and I am intrigued. The price is a little high but I am sure it will be worth it. I don't own Atmosphere so I wont have the option to upgrade. It seems like a really classy plug. The design looks out of this world and the sounds appear to be excellent. I'm sure it will be a killer app. I just have to save up $500 so I can get it!

500$ for a software rompler/synth hybrid ... hmmmm ... and for sure no demo-version and a difficult license-transfer ... uuiiii ... and most of us know meanwhile: it's the user, not the instrument or host ... oink ...

Omnisphere - will it be worth the hype ?
We won't know until we get our dirty little paws on it. I'm banking on the answer being 'yes' and I hope that Spectrasonics is very kind to those of use who own Atmosphere (and Stylus RMX).

Ditto

Maybe even bigger discount for those of us with both of these .... :?:

I didn't even think about RMX! I own that so maybe you guys are right and there will be a price cut for us?

Sure, $500 seems steep, but someone's got to pay for that piano that they burned and real pianos are not cheap.

I'm a bit on the fence, but I'm jaded. I've got a folder full of amazing sounding VSTs. Probably too many, but I'm like that crazy neighborhood cat lady who just keeps adopting cats and feeding them. Luckily synths don't piss on everything. I'll probably get Omnisphere. I bought Atmosphere a month ago in preparation and, it's yet to find it's way into a track. Not sure why... I wish there was some way to "stream" a demo of each sound because waiting for the load of the entire sound is really annoying. Maybe they'll have fixed that in Omnisphere.

Anyway, I'm sure Omnisphere won't really sound "better" than anything that's already out there. I say this because I don't believe in "better." (I just believe in me. Yoko and me... that's reality) I do believe in desirable character though and I bet Omnisphere will be that for sure.

Will it be worth the hype? Highly unlikely... There is hype presenting it as some sort of messianic synth which is going to elevate the vst to divine heights.

It is not going to make anyone a great musician if they buy it... There are many superb sounding synths today so no, it is not going to sound appreciably 'better' than what is out there now...

Considering the companies track record of quality sound, it is likely many people will find it worth the price.

It is going to be well worth the hype. Spectrasonics has put out the best VSTis and sample libraries in the business, and this is their biggest endeavor yet - no reason to think it will be anything less than amazing!

worth the hype - ????????
worth the price - to me it will be, but I'm probably not as price sensitive as a lot of people on KVR.

I've no doubt it will be a great instrument, a quality plugin, and sound amazing.

Worth the hype, who knows. Does anything live up to the hype? Worth the price, maybe not for some people. I might get it.

I am more in a less is more attitide these days. Anyway, the idea of a sample playback engine as a synth was never that attractive to me. A good compromise is imo Absynth. If I had not Absynth I would rather invest in this than in Omnisphere

Why do people keep referring to Omnisphere as a "playback engine" or ROMpler? It isn't. Its oscillators are capable of loading samples for normal playback, granular synthesis, or whatever you want, but it also has subtractive synthesis, FM, PWM, sync, ringmod, etc. In other words, it's capable of real DSP synthesis, among other things. It also has filters, LFOs, envelopes and all the other features you'd expect in any powerful synth.

If you're going to criticize something before its even out, maybe you should read up a bit about it first? ;)
