Not yet... there's a lot of issues with that... on some systems things get darker, on others they get brighter. Havn't quite sussed it out among the mess of libraries I'm using...unangular wrote:Hey Urs...
One question?
Does ace's gui [script,dll...] includes any kind
of gamma modification ?

@ Urs :
Ok then...
I was suspecting on some semitransparent, system dependant alpha/gamma
layer; on overlay mode... or something like that...
@ raikard233 :
Mostly knobman & photoshop
@ Cyforce :
More contrast?
Maybe... who knows...
I know i don't...
It depends...
Idea and [graphic] realization, week-two.
Testing, re/position [script], and modifications [graphic]...
Few days...
[Sometimes it can ["more contrast"/gamma issue] take quite longer]

Is there a manual for ACE yet? I'm a bit confused as to how it all works because I've never used a true modular synthesizer. Just from futzing around I've gotten some great sounds from the demo but I feel like I won't really be getting my money's worth if I have no reference at least.

it does have a manual that comes with it...I find that more a quick reference than a reference manual, but that is just me.....BUT the irony is, I was hoping you would do some tutorials for it, so I can understand it, like you did with Zebra.... hmmm, I guess those tutorials may be a little while away

Haha, well it certainly looks like a lot of fun - I've only just downloaded it 30 minutes ago though

Hi great synth btw just giving it a test run now. One thing that is concerning me is how the cpu load gets distributed when setting stack mode to 8 from another preset. Im running it on an 8 core power mac but when i have stack on 8 it just peaks out one cpu then i get error message.
"Error while trying to sync Audio and midi. (sample rate 36029 recognized. check conflict between logic pro and external device)"
It doesn't crash with every preset when i do this but is using a lot of cpu and nearly peaking. I Just wondered if there are any plans to change cpu distribution?
Can anybody else run it whilst changing to 8 stack from a preset.
cheers Jamie

Hi Jamie,
Unfortunately it's not possible at this time to distribute voices within a plugin without major side effects. A plugin would have to set up its own 2-8 high priority threads. This would naturally involve latency between voices before the effects section, which would mean that it's close to impossible to play the instrument live. Furtherly, the actual load balancing of the host itself would be corrupted and the overall timing would suffer.
Voice distribution only makes sense for instruments that playback recorded MIDI tracks, and those tracks could as well be frozen anyway. The distribution furtherly needs to be done by the host software, but plugin standards are not yet that far (VST3 has some stuff for that, but no other plugin API afaiaa).
So what happens is that Logic distributes whole plugins between cores, but it can't distribute parts within a plugin.

That said, hehehe, I highly doubt that one really ever needs the 8-way stack in ACE, and if, one can certainly set the quality to "standard" without much of a downturn. You can then freeze the track in max quality, if needed.
Cheers,
Urs

Hi Urs could you tell me what it is that makes ACE so cpu intensive? I was thinking maybe it was the oscilloscope. Is there anyway to turn this off.
thanks again Jamie

It's not the oscilloscope sucking down resources. You can lower the quality of presets to lower CPU usage. In many cases the lower settings have little to no sound coloration but gain huge amounts of CPU. It's worth adjusting the value per-preset to determine if the trade-off is worth it. And of course, the number of notes you pass in at a time will affect the CPU usage as well. Poly presets with large chords will use a lot more CPU than a monophonic lead.jamie8286 wrote:Hi Urs could you tell me what it is that makes ACE so cpu intensive? Indeed... the oscilloscope runs on "free cycles", whenever the cpu idles on the main thread
