That's an amazing patch! One of the most interesting sounds I've heard from a synth in a long time. Do you plan on releasing it commercially?

simon, if you would do a soundset for spectral that would be great :)

Thank's guys - played around more with the demo during the night and I think I'm sold. I mean I can draw harmonics and create my own waveforms in Absynth and Zebra too, but Spectral sounds special and the routing and modulation options are quite well layed out. In combination wit FM/AM (which Zebra doesn't do like this) and the possibility to layer 4 oscillators, each one using a customized filter if needed, this synth is more than just a little monster.

The only thing that really sucks in this synth is the reverb, but that's not a downer - also there are some issues with Logic 9.1.8 on OSX 10.6.8, huge lag when clicking on some FX tabs, takes like 10-20 sec to refresh the GUI, will try on OSX 10.8.5 today.

I'll buy it later today and also make a soundset for it - including the test patch of course :)

And bought!

Just bought this.

Amazing sounds, really versatile. Really impressive demos, every one of them.
Awesome interface and GUI. Thanks for the Albino crossgrade.

Incredible work.

Thanks LinPlug!

It reminds me a little bit of Harmor on first listen. Digital but warm. Cutting but rounded. I'll give up there!

It's a lot more powerful than Harmor...

Spectral is a game changer in the digital synth world...

The sound engine is 3 dimensional with a huge sound stage...

A big round of applause for the developers and the programmers
No auto tune...

Really?

I haven't installed it yet. I bought it on the strength of the demos. I didn't even realise it was additive until I read the blurb.

Can it also do 'sampling' like Harmor? And importing waveforms? It would be cool what with Adventure Kids waveforms and being able to make your own with Audio-Term.

I really must install this later.

What's a 3-dimensional sound engine? Do I need 3D headphones to be able to hear it?

I too, await.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

It has a "depth of field" in the soundstage

Height,width and depth = 3D...

But you need a 3D brain connected to your 3D ears to hear it

Well, if you're gonna play that game...

Some say that sound can only be 2D, because you only have two ears to perceive it. Then again, the ears don't really perceive sound/music - the brain does. Does that make it one-dimensional?

Others say that sound is 4D, because you can perceive sounds to the left of you and to the right of you, also up and down.

Let us not forget that we can also perceive sound/music to the front and to the back of us - does that make it 6D?

Of course we are talking about stereo field/image placement here.

You may be talking about frequency spectrum 3D? As in, the sounds contain Hi/Mid/Low frequencies?

And I would say that if you were, both Harmor and the demos I've heard of Spectral contain full-frequency dominance. But neither one more than the other. And probably not any more than any other 3/OSC synth composed of the different frequencies.

:-)

Anyway, can Spectral Sample or not? Serious genuine question. And can it load external waveforms? Same.

Harmor is a beast and one of my top five desert island synths. I'm sure Harmor and Spectral will have some overlap but still compliment each other. Some how.

Or does it just have the mythical 'shimmer'? Ah, the holy grail of synthesis...

:o

Spectral doesn't "sample" - you draw the waveforms like in Zebra or Absynth, no single cycle import.

Post

psychoacoustic anyone? I don't know what they did, but the latest update NI did to FM8 made it sound much better, much 'wider'. It's startling when you compare it to Absynth, which sounds so narrow. I probably should be using Absynth Surround, but my system is only 2 speakers, so maybe it's misnamed.
Regardless '3D' sound in any synth is a joy.
The question will be - what does it sound like on a track when you've high passed it to keep it out of the way of kick/bass?

Ah, thanks.

Just thought it might do that neat trick that Harmor and Alchemy can do, being additive and all.

Anyway, less to get distracted with.

Can't wait to start making some sounds from scratch with it.
