The thing is that the info already known makes me think that I may need this synthie, but I have to decide before the end of January if I'm saving money for this or putting it elsewhere - but that's my own problems, of course

Thanks, Ingo, of course I understand that your are under the NDA. I was just trying my luck for the case Tone2 have approved "leaking" some sounds to fuel the hype

One thing about the sound: the plasticness of these synths seems to bother everybody a lot. When it bothers me, I just place a little free plugin called Deharsh after it (I think you know which one I'm talking about, and it's excellent) and the problem is solved. In the tracks I've made with Icarus so far, I haven't had to use it even once, the control on the sound is all it can be in a synth, and the only external eqs and fx I've used are in the mastering phase, like I always do, but in the mix I've only used the sound as it comes out of the synth.

Hmm... i don't think you mean the same kind of plasticness people tend to think of when talking about Tone2 synths. At least, i wouldn't know how a plugin behind it would automagically get rid of that sound. Not that i ever would buy a synth which would leave me with the need of putting a plugin behind it to make it sound better. If the sound isn't right in the first place, spicing it up with other plugins sounds like a lot of work. Don't get me wrong, of course noone would not use any effects, EQ'ing and what not, but if i have to chain a plugin behind a synth to make it sound pleasing, the synth is not sounding well enough IMO, so i wouldn't bother using it at all.Mac of BIOnighT wrote:One thing about the sound: the plasticness of these synths seem to bother everybody a lot. I agree. Personally, I love the sound of Tone 2 synths. I think they're slightly overpriced but other than that, no complaints though I probably won't purchase any other of their synths though I do have and enjoy both Rayblaster and Electra 2.chk071 wrote:Hmm... i don't think you mean the same kind of plasticness people tend to think of when talking about Tone2 synths. I have one T2 synth - Saurus 1, and I never noticed any "plasticness" about its sound, but to my experience it is a bit tricky to make it sit well in the mix - it sounds sweet on its own, but in the mix its sound often loses power and definition - it may be my lack of proper skills at the first place, but i don't experience the same with other synths doing similar sounds. That's why I dont use it often. Saurus 2 seems to be improved soundwise (but I still didn't upgrade so I can't say if it behaves better in the mix).Mac of BIOnighT wrote:One thing about the sound: the plasticness of these synths seems to bother everybody a lot. That said, it once provided me the best sounding acid sequence I've ever made in my life.

Hopefully this synth will not have some of this Tone2 "psychoacoustic enhancements" which IMO doesn't sound very good.
I've completely no idea if I really need such synth, it depends of the features and what this synth can do and of course how it will sound. There is also Serum/Massive... so only a "light weight" wavetable synth will not be enough to get a lot of interest (IMO).
If have not read the complete thread, maybe this "3d" was demystified earlier... my first idea while reading "3D" was some controller/pad for moving thru the wavetables.

i own gladiator and rayblaster and though the infrastructure of both synth can be very different, feel they have somehow a typical color signature from the tone2 instrument
i'm very curious about this new one, BTW...

very likely...fluffy_little_something wrote:It also says resynthesis.
The good thing about a Tone2 wavetable thingy is that it will likely be more CPU efficient than similar plugins.

I'm talking about taste, not bad sound. There's basically no synth I needn't eq to make it sound good to my ears, just like there's no acoustic sound I don't have to eq to make it sound good to my ears. What I personally need to do when using these synths is a lot less than I have to do with most (i.e. I needn't surgically eq them), so to me they sound good. Again, I'm talking about taste, not qualitychk071 wrote:the synth is not sounding well enough IMO, so i wouldn't bother using it at all.
