But again, if you think that the new Mac version really needs some final essential tweaking before M7.1 is released, thus something too essential that should not be postponed, pls do let me know. Thx!

My number one request right now is support for VST shells so things like Waves plugins are not so troublesome.
Hopefully, it's just a matter of expanding the VST valuation routine so shells can pass.

I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

Yes, but there's also another aspect of plugin support. Up to 7.1.21, MuLab only supports VST 2 while many other DAWs on Mac also support AU and some developers are starting to deliver only AU and VST3 for their new Mac stuff (e.g. Scuffham Amps with S-Gear, a very good plugin I bought and can not currently use with MuLab on Mac).syntonica wrote:My number one request right now is support for VST shells so things like Waves plugins are not so troublesome.

Maybe not strictly mandatory to finalize the official 7.1, but VST 3 and/or AU should be considered soon.

I think it's rather Scuffham Amps that should make their Mac plugs also available as VST 2.4, imho.antoniaz wrote:Yes, but there's also another aspect of plugin support. Cfr my previous reply on this: Implementing VST3 / AU is not planned on short term. Most AUs are also available as VST and AU is OSX specific so for 75% of the users such dev works would mean nothing (even a disadvantage cause of lost dev time), so taken all these considerations into account AU is not an interesting working target. VST3 is a odd SDK, imho (and i'm not the only dev saying this), VST 2.4 still is the best multi-platform way to go, for both plug devs as hosts. The most of all i'd welcome a new platform-independent open-source modern future-proof no-nonsense well-defined sound/music plug-in format supported by (almost) all developers & manufacturers, a plug-in format that also supports polyphonic operation.Maybe not strictly mandatory to finalize the official 7.1, but VST 3 and/or AU should be considered soon.

I agree with you but this is the current situation. Still hoping that Mike will do the VST 2.4 somewhen. But I see more VST 3 recently available in general, so it could become important in the near future.mutools wrote:I think it's rather Scuffham Amps that should make their Mac plugs also available as VST 2.4, imho.antoniaz wrote:Yes, but there's also another aspect of plugin support. I fully share your dream of a common and best format.mutools wrote:Cfr my previous reply on this: Implementing VST3 / AU is not planned on short term. How to install: See the Read Me.txt in that webfolder.
What's changed since M7.0.47 besides the rewrite of the Mac version:
- Fixed a potential crash bug when changing the loop length of a sequence on 64 bit systems.
- Added extra protection wrt. entering invalid parameter values.
- Fixed a bug in the Key Names sub-system that could make key name setups to be multi-channel by default.
- In some cases the popup edit field width for inputting small numeric values was not wide enough. Fixed.
- Recording rack mutes didn't work anymore. Fixed.
- When adding a sub-track, that sub-track now defaults to using the parent track's MIDI channel.
- Fixed a potential rounding issue in sound modulation sub-system which could lead to sonic artifacts and in exceptional cases even to crashes.
This fix which now uses higher resolution variables also further raises the overall quality of the whole MUX sound system. - Added support/protection for VSTs that don't properly report the name of parameters. (it's invalid behavior, but it happens)
- On some slower systems or on high system load, very short clicks on push buttons and scrollbars could be ignored. Fixed.
- Added an explicit function to switch the keyboard focus to the very VST plugin's editor for in case the VST's own editor does not do that.
- Drag-dropping an FXB/FXP file on the top control bar of the VST editor loads that FXB/FXP into the VST.
- When you record a new sequence part, the new sequence name now defaults to the track name. (previously it was "Recorded Sequence")
- When scanning VST plug-ins it is made sure that all relevant scan messages are logged for in case you want to analyze a VST scan issue.
- The exceptional "User thread wait time-out error" now is reported in the log, but does not each time popup an alert anymore, only 1 common popup alert at the very end that reports the number of errors that have been logged, if any. That's a more smooth solution wrt the musical workflow.
- When drawing a new part on an empty track, the part type selector popup did not go away by clicking aside it. Fixed.
- Multi-Form Oscillator:
- Right-click a source or transform tab -> new "Delete All" menu option.
- Upon doing "Insert Wavetable Audio File" or "Insert Multiple Sample Grains" now it automatically also renders the new multi-form setup.
- The "Add Multiple Sample Grains" dialog has been improved and extended with extra options function. For example you can now also make wavetables using sample grains that step by step grow in harmonic content from an existing sample ie keep the grain start fixed but advance the grain end.
- When opening a project/preset with unfound audio files:
- The search dialog's "Search Root Folder" field now is persistent between searches.
- Added an extra option "Search All".
- When a search finds the file, that location will be taken into account for next searches.
- Fixed a sonic bug in the Modulation Mapper in case no source input was connected, but there was audio-rate modulation input for its Amplitude or Offset parameters.
- And more little improvements.

Well, I managed to load my massive drum kit project OK. Not had a chance to actually do anything with it yet!
