It will obviously mean different things to different people. For example, orchestral and film composers, rock bands, EDM artists, & hip hop artists, are likely to have widely different views on what constitutes "bread and butter sounds" for them.
Is there an echo in KvR?!

(I was just making this argument on another thread. Infuriating.)

I think the thin sound of Pigments is mostly an urban legend (like the majority of cases where a synth is declared thin, including Dune)
I wouldn’t believe that bare OSCs sound thicc in one synth and thin in another.
It’s people who make it sound thin.
Just do some reasonable tweaks to address some natural design differences beyond the OSCs
Weapons of choice (subject to change):
Godin Redline, Kuassa, Fuse Audio, Audiority, Roland A-500pro, Dune, Dagger, TAL, Reaper for Rock & Synthwave pleasures; Viper and FL Studio for guilty EDM pleasures

I've never found Pigments thin.

If you're running 6 oscillators (Both Engines with all analogue oscillators running) you might run into some phase issues that could lead to some bottom end issues but there is nothing intrinsically "thin" about Pigments.

Is this plugin thin? :D

also I'm not sure why "fat" is good and "thin" is bad. People also like thin music.

Differences in definition. What "thick" and "thin" mean seems to vary from person to person. (Which is to be expected, I'm just saying it's the case, not that it's bad.)

I'd still love to see someone do the "Everything in Its Right Place" sound in Pigments. It should be simple, right?

I agree that thin is good. ...Not always, but often. I want access to both.

Post

I believe that already have access to both (at least I very much do hope so)

Here's an attempt - one is the non-dynamic Repro5 preset, the other is Pigments

If we are to guess, I think Pigments is the second one.
Interesting example though, I found the first one brighter and fatter, and the second one, duller but thinner. (I often associate duller sounds as more analogue sounding, so it was a toss up)

Sorry this is what I should have done in the first place. I got the midi for the song so here is a better comparison - I haven't changed the order of the parts.

Ok....Even more so now, think that the first one is Repro the second Pigments.

Maybe try something more analog sounding? That's a simple e-piano sound which even every freeware can do in the same quality.

Post

A touch of distortion/overdrive over the second example would bring them closer together.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I think it is a fair test though (even if my guess is wrong).....they do sound different, and indeed if pigments is thin sounding, it should come over in the clip.

I only did that one as someone suggested an exact preset to copy.

Pigments was the first of the 2 examples
