For those of you who have listened before I have updated my track. Added an extra layer for the piano to add a little more ring to the sound. So have added 1 more Synister and 1 more ReaEQ.

Hi folks,
here is my entry for this round:
https://soundcloud.com/nenneb/eightiesg ... -challenge

This is my first composition using MultitrackStudio 10.2 (https://www.multitrackstudio.com/) - a cool, musical DAW I came over in January. So I'm quite unused to this, but like it!
As I did not like the sound of the this-round-synth "Synister" too much, I had the idea to make a cheap-sounding track as an echo to the 80s-games.
Unfortunately I ran out of time due to issues in my family, so this track remained some way unpolished - sorry!

I used
8 instances of Synister
Classic Delay 2x
LoudMax 2x
TDR Feedback Compressor
Transpire 2x
Abstract Chamber
MHorse P3
Bitsonic Violent Stereo Imager L

And some effects buildt in the DAW:
EQ, Echo, Doubler, M/S, Reverb, Saturator, Limiter

10x synister

dragonfly plate reverb

Here is my submission for #156: "Wrong Planet Janet"

https://soundcloud.com/slugnest/silverp ... al_sharing

14 Instances of Synister (all home-made sounds)
DAW: Reaper.
FX:
Dead Duck: Compressor, Filter, Limiter.
Ambient Reverb.
OrilRiver Reverb.
Reaper ReaEQ
SPAN Analyser.

Hope you enjoy! And I'm excited to see the playlist on Soundcloud soon! Always such good stuff in there.

That's why I love OSC - the discussion in the first days of the month about how useless and unfinished the synthesizer is, and the sea of just incredible tracks for it at the end of the month!

Post

Yes I agree IV! At first I just hated the synth and I actually still do I am afraid. But it challenged me to squeeze everything out of it and it all worked out pretty well for me. So it has become a love/hate thing now and I guess many of us have similar feelings. I have heard some entries and they're quite astonishing. February has been a great OSC month!

Last update of my track. I have changed some minor things like EQ-ing, a fiercer kick drum and I added an extra lead synth to give the melody in the end section some extra presence.

Alright, I'm dong this:

https://soundcloud.com/taronium/taron-r ... al_sharing

#instances: 1
DAW: MuLab (www.mutools.com)
DAW FX: 4Band EQ, Vintage Echo 1
FX: Valhalla Supermassive, Auburn Sounds Panagement 2 (free), Dimension Expander, OTT, Loudmax

Just for fun, I've attached the MuProject for those, who have MuLab and enough curiosity to look at the slighty nutty fx automation of it :hihi: ...and my ignorant attempt at a classical appearing composition.

Why 1 instance? Well...I've done a bunch of tracks the common way, finding that drums are actually pretty great with Synister, but when it comes to melodic instruments, I was bothered how narrow the spectrum felt for their sound. It's like a asking Jim Carrey to replace an entire cast by making different faces. Thus I figured, why not just let him be one guy... and there it is!
I've always wanted to try and use a synth like a single instrument that could hold a tune, like a piano, guitar or whatever can accompany itself. A wonderful experiment to me and I've had a total blast! :hyper:

Great songs so far. Since I'm new to the competition: What's next, when does the voting start and how exactly does it work?

Post

Once the first of the next months comes around, the first post of this thread will change its title to *(VOTING TIME) or the likes and a big link will appear like "VOTE HERE!".

This link will take you to a voting website, where you will have to register with your KVR username, but a new password of your choosing.

This website then will have rating slots from 1 - 5 points to the left and a list of all tracks to the right. You can drag and drop these tracks then into any of the rating slots. Your own track you will put into the 1 point rating slot.

You can play the tracks where they are, but I usually click on the soundcloud link and listen to it there, where I often also write comments then, too.

Post

Note that the competition submission and voting periods are based on UTC-8 time, and collecting the submissions and preparing the voting site takes some time. It can be well into the 1st before it's done, so adjust according to your time zone and be prepared for a wait.

Oh man. Taron! What a blast! I knew the biggest part of the track already and I love this new ending. Makes me think of an old machine you could put a coin in and then all of a sudden music would start to play and dancing puppets appear all around me. In the end the machine all of a sudden walks away like an old man carrying a heavy suitcase with him. Five points again! Congratulations and a Big hug!

Hahahaha, thank you very much! ♥ ...first time I felt at ease, submitting a 1 instance track, let alone making one. Love the vision it triggered for you! :tu:

Perhaps I should have done my track as a 1 instance??? Would have been relatively easy :D

And what exactly are you trying to say here!!! :x :hihi:

Mr T. No criticism of yours and anyone else doing 1 instance tracks! Really good ones so far over the various OSC rounds of late! :tu:

I just never thought of trying my tracks (mainly piano) as a one instance. You made me think again, and I could see how I could route the "bass" and other tracks to the piano melody track, and it does sound quite good (but without perc, of course!!!). Careful automated EQ could realise the different instruments along the track too. I will remember this, listen carefully to other 1 instance tracks, and consider this for future OSC's - just really never crossed my mind to try it ...

Sorry it it seemed to imply your track was easy to do ... on the contrary!
