You assume that everyone is like yousQeetz wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 6:19 am So @BONES you don't like making music, you actually like performing. That's your goal.
You cannot in any circumstance see how someone enjoys the process of getting things ready for performance?
Nerds maybe, who enjoy mixing and making things sound good?
What's that one synth that you find never sounds bad?

This has been said to him many times. I'm not sure he is aware of the frame that surrounds him.

He's quoted himself, I'm not quite sure what he's trying to say there. I don't assume anyone is like anything, I go by the evidence I am presented. If I assume anything, it's that people think about what they are doing to the same extent I do, which seems a reasonable enough assumption, doesn't it?
No I cannot. It's boring work, like filling out spreadsheets. And to do it properly takes forever. As I've hinted at, I think maybe people who do enjoy it aren't putting in the same amount of effort I think it needs.sQeetz wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 6:19 amYou cannot in any circumstance see how someone enjoys the process of getting things ready for performance?
Do you have actual problems, though? Isn't it just a process you have to work through? That's how it is for us - it always works, that's how you know it will be worth the effort, but you also know it can work better so you keep refining it.
Really? I think it sounds bloody awful. We .used it a bit a few years ago but eventually found better sounds in other instruments on every part we' had it on.

I myself quite like to do some of the stuff you dread doing.... for example phase shifting stuff until the bass is sound and clear. It is something I actually enjoy doing

"problem-solving"; "boring/not enjoyable"; it's stupid to get bogged down in semantic splitting hairs.
I do elaborate setting up of a soundstage that from looking around i think few do. Some of it is deep programming of a synth like Absynth which can do a lot of extreme/wild which is where I live as opposed to presets for a subtractive VA thingy. Then, EQing is problem-solving FFS.
Some of it is what is the right wet-dry or level of ceiling mics for this in the 3D room vs that which has to be heard ie., tested; there is problem-solving found therein. It's not to say necessarily I have an issue for a support channel or something (although there occasionally is that type of problem, obv., albeit I nearly always sort it all by myself*), but frankly "it just works" as though one's life in a 21st c. DAW is perfectly simple seems... off. I suppose my setups have that many more moving parts?
(*: recently in setting up my VE Pro frames touching an internal effect inside Synchron Player meant an instant crash. I don't know how to read dense crash reports so VSL's support channel had to find that the crash happened in Replika XT with a possible RAM corruption)
So it gets to be justifying and explaining non-controversial statements instead of a wholesome exchange of ideas. Even as I'm +1ing a comment, in support of another's ideas I don't wholly relate to to say the least.
Boring work, sure, as I said I use it as a meditative mindset instead of tedium and the irritation of that.

"I think it sounds bloody awful."
You think a lot of things that sound fantastic are awful and things which I find utter trash to be brilliant. Why even go here? Give over with that.
and BTFW: "but eventually found better sounds" = a problem solved
I don't love the GUI of original Massive, but I used it to gorgeous effect at least the once, it was a deep, rich evolving warmth of a brilliantly made patch. I guarantee I can make it sound "bad".
I think many if not most of the comments are made by people that never go past presets, so the real meaning is this has good presets/this doesn't according to one's taste. I shoulda just bypassed this one as I tend to do with these synths threads.

Well, regarding old Massive, I don't agree with BONES. I think it still sounds amazing (also FM8 and Absynth 5) if only they add bigger sizes and make them hdpi friendly!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Yeah, I don't know what it is, it just doesn't impress me most of the time. I've never heard what I'd describe as a nice strings patch from it, for example, or a bass I was interested in using. The presets never made me want to dig into it more to see what I could coax out of it myself and the GUI didn't help in that regard, either, so I was happy to be without it when I got the opportunity.
Of course, it doesn't work with recorded parts. In a 15 track mix, more than half the effects in use will be on my vocal channel(s) and, most of the time, all the effects will be spread between vox, drums and the master channel; 3 or 4 channels out of 16. It's amazing how this approach has led to much clearer mixes, without sacrificing intensity or density. Honestly, it's been a revelation.
What a load of twaddle. It is completely clear to me (and should be to anyone else) that none of you have anything close to my perspective on pretty much anything. It's why you do so many dumbass things that make no f**king sense, yet fail to realise it. At least when I do dumbass shit, I am able to see it for what it is.sQeetz wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 2:10 pmAnd there lies the egocentrical BS one always have to suffer listening to your stuff. I do almost no eq'ing any more, I find it largely unnecessary if I use the right sounds. It comes from viewing the entire process holistically, not breaking it into separate chunks with little or no cross-over.
A choice you make, where I choose to keep things manageable, to minimise the possibility of problems.I suppose my setups have that many more moving parts?
Which is a good approach but not one that would suit me, I think. Mine is much more "suck it and see" - I try lots of things and keep the one that works best. It's time-consuming but minimises the difficulty of getting it right. I never go chasing a solution to a problem, I just ditch the offender and find something that doesn't create any problems. So I avoid problems, rather than try8ng to solve them.Boring work, sure, as I said I use it as a meditative mindset instead of tedium and the irritation of that.

Not really. Our last album is replete with Massive sounds but the versions of those songs we play live have none of it. It wasn't anything that needed fixing, it was a change mostly for the sake of change, because I decided I'd rather use Aparillo or Thorn or whatever. If it was addressing any issue, it is how many plugins I need to install.
It definitely has it's uses, we mostly used it for glitchy things, which is a category it pretty much invented. But it was ultimately too niche and we had other synths we were using a lot more that could do the same things to a similar standard, plus other things. I definitely didn't like the GUI, either, which was probably just as big a consideration in getting rid of it.I don't love the GUI of original Massive, but I used it to gorgeous effect at least the once, it was a deep, rich evolving warmth of a brilliantly made patch. Why? Your contributions have been more than worthwhile.I shoulda just bypassed this one as I tend to do with these synths threads.

You're so full of self-contradictory spaghetti logic dude, none of your "arguments" hold up to any sort of scrutiny. That's why most of us here don't bother to engage with you and your miniscule keyhole worldview. You're embarrassingly un-self-aware for a man of your age yet you sprout forth about knowing when you're making an a$$ of yourself.BONES wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 12:21 am People who love Massive X have probably never even heard of Schwa Olga, let alone used it. But the thing is, it's possible to like, even love, more than one synth so just because you appreciate the brilliance of Olga does not preclude you from also having a high opinion of Massive X. Yet to understand just how good Olga is definitely requires a refined ear and the brains to recognise true brilliance when you hear it.
Personally, I have no opinion of Massive X at all. I haven't so much as looked at it or listened to a single demo. It may well be the best sounding synth in the universe, I couldn't care less. It's not something I either want or need.
No. You clearly have no clue when you're embarrassing yourself. Because you do it ALL THE TIME.
Look in the mirror. See the knucklehead? Get him some help. He'll be a lot happier.

It's entertaining watching people interact with the angry man, but I think you'd be happier if you didn't.
Let him think he's the best and knows exactly how to think perfectly, probably better than anybody else (including you), by not feeding him your responses.
Make music, be happy! Enjoy solving the problems
