God you're a dickhead! It's not about hassle, its about intuitiveness.
Imagine you recorded a typical piano-pattern. - the bas with the left hand and chords/melody with the right hand.

Later on while mixing your song you notice that the bass of the piano is too loud. - now you can simply open the piano-roll, lasso only the notes you played with the left hand and quickly correct the velocity.
What if I want to go through note by note and slightly randomise the velocity of each note [one of my favourite and most use modulation tricks]? Select one note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. OK, that's the first bar done. Move on to the next bar and repeat. Great f**king workflow, that.
In ORION I can just drag my cursor through the forest of velocity lines, moving it up an down slightly as I go and its done in 2 seconds. If I want to edit a whole bunch, as per your example, I can select those notes, right-click and choose scale velocities, enter a value [as a percentage] and its done.
I've produced two albums of original songs in ORION without ever connecting a MIDI keyboard to my computer so the Piano Roll is a very central part of the process for me and eXT doesn't come close to being useful in that department.

Do it like what? What f**king "composer"? This is exactly the kind of stuff I mean. Why shouldn't things be straightforward?

In MIDI parts you can access Composer from the file menu. You can fade velocities, randomise notes etc.

Image

You don't need to select each note individually. Select nothing and drag through the velocities at the bottom. Or select a group of notes and the drag select will only affect the notes selected.

No I'm not.
jens wrote:- when you need to insert several notes at once then you should use the composer...
Nope, the composer offers little help with something like this. You just can't seem to be able to imagine anyone working differently than you do...

Composer:

Open the Midi part you want and go to File => Show Composer.

Select the Options you want as shown above, select a min and max value and press "apply"

Though the velocity fade is something of a joke in its current stage. Check the velocity fades in the pic in my last post for what it can't do.

Bah ceenda,

Your piccy is much more better than mine!! :x :x :x

(and so is your explanation

EDIT: god, I'm on bad form tonight!!

Perfect! Thanks, it seems to work usefully after deselecting, although I am still getting some weird behaviour where changing the velocity of one note undoes the change to the note previously edited [or some other random change]. Its weird.

that looks a bit dirty - I think I don't wanna know how it sounds... :P

(b.t.w.: it wouldn't be a big deal to create something like this with eXT...)

Bunnyboy:  Nah, I just have too much time on my hands.

I agree about the fade functionality btw. I noticed there's problems doing it over selected notes as well. Hopefully that'll get fixed. Probably entry no. #5003352-A on the Feature Requests...

Also, I'd love the Piano Roll to have the one-click for note addition. Double clicking or Alt-Clicking doesn't seem right. The Piano Rolls in FL Studio and Orion are both very good, very easy to get data in while it's on your mind. I tend to do all midi writing via keyboard in eXT and stay away from manually adding it in to the piano roll for those reasons.

BONES: yeah, it happens even when you have 2 selected notes that are miles apart. you modify the velocity on one, and when you do it on the other note it screws the previous one up. hopefully that glitch will get fixed.

Thank Jens, this is a picture of me 25 years after learning the basics. After a while you get a little sick and tired of people trying to reinvent the wheel. If you noticed, I said in a post a few pages back that I wasn't going to start carrying on until I learned the app a lot better. That was until you storm-troopered on in and started carrying on like a pork chop. In a few lines, glurgle sussed out my problem and was more helpful than you have been in a dozen ranting posts.

It's basically a drum fill, but it doesn't sound too special. It was really just a quick midi-editing test, but it's something I could imagine myself doing in real situation as well.

I disagree. Notice the velocity fades.

yeah - you're right about this - this composer bug/problem needs to get fixed... :)
