Second The Blue Nile. Total quality, and they never sit back and stay still. Last year's album was particularly special. Roll on their next album, in...well, about 2013 I reckon.

I loved 'The Last Film I ever saw' - I remember it on Top Of The Tops!

(actually they did 3 discs.. I had a white label pressing of the first disc.. The third album was called 'Mixing' I believe (or 'Mixes') and a number of the tracks are availale on CD reissues of the Albums). Also from Truimvirate Records was Gordon Giltrap, whose three LPs 'Visionary', 'Perilous Journey' and 'Fear of the Dark' are masterpieces (especially 'Perilous Journey'). I used to have about 6 or 7 Gordon Giltrap LPs, but those three were by far the best. A mate of mine learnt to play the keyboard solo from 'HeartSong', I tell you it's heart stopping to watch!

Man, they were a group. (from wales I believe, and another Gentle Giant connexion there as well).. back OnTpc - Gryphon were excellent if a little insular. They were greats, but maybe a little lost in time!

Other possibles for our lists..

Actually most of my old record collecion. I say old, I used to have approaching 800 original vinyl LPs of mostly prog (altho' yes, I did have some Brotherhood of Man - cool group(!) and Ottowan..:). But due to finances and a feeling that I probably wouldn't want my children to listen to about (all) of it, I sold or gave away all but 2 discs. Such is life.

Oh, yeah, and my old band 'Paley's Watch'.. we should have gained much more recognition! Our CD 'November' (1994) is still available here and there. Just ask, I'm sure I can point you in the right direction!

A voice like that and he vanishes to appear ten years later with a drug-rehab face singing a song that could be a jingle. What a waste.

Yeah, I remember the critics were quite taken by him. He was supposed to be the next Prince or something.

Devo

Yep. Love all the Howard Devoto related stuff - Luxuria, Magazine, Pete Shelley (though I wasn't too keen on the ShelleyDevoto stuff - must relisten to that). Mentioning the Buzzcocks (not that I did :P ) brings me neatly to a little story of mine (now I grab my pipe and slippers...) about 10 years or so ago I had just bought a Buzzcocks single (they briefly reformed and, though not a huge Buzzcocks fan as much as Devoto/Shelley/Magazine, I really liked the single and cover, so I got a shirt made with a print of the single's cover. I then decided to go to Turnkey in London to get some stuff but at the last minute decided not to wear my "one-off" Buzzcocks shirt. So I am standing there at the counter in Turnkey, waiting to be served by those wonderful people who work there, when I glance to my right and, bugger me, it's one of the guitarists out of the Buzzcocks standing right there. Honest!

 I think I am going to cry! i just remembered that I am sure I had something else by Devoto on cassette or something related from a few years back - can't remember what it was but I am sure I am right in remembering it was pretty damn good. I can't remember under what name it was released though - if anyone has any ideas - I must get to sleep but will hunt for it when I wake up ...... plus Pete Shelley's solo stuff is fantastic too. The Dub mix of Many A Time, I Generate A Feeling, the whole of Heaven And The Sea album.

It feels good to get that off my manly chest..... :help: :hihi:

Crème Brûlée

it's a shit business, the music business...

I see The Replacements get a mention (quite deservedly) so surely Husker Du should too?

Signed to a major (amazingly), two albums, an appearance on Joan Rivers show then bang. Classic band implosion. Still name checked by lots of other artists but the general record buying public haven't a clue who they are.

A band that should have made it - RABIT

Trevor Rabin: Vocals, guitars, keyboards, producer, arranger
Neil Cloud: Drums, percussion
Duncan Faure: Keyboards, lead vocals on 'Hard Ride'
Ronnie Robot: Bass

Patric van Blerk: Producer
Julian Laxton: Producer, engineer

That kinda lineup may mean little to many, but Trevor Rabin went ahead and won a few grammys with Yes and solo and is now scoring films in the top class. Duncan Faure joined Bay City Rollers where they became legends in the hairdo-pop genre. Van Blenc and Laxton both won plenty awards and maybe some grammys included.

If they could just all have stuck together they had the talent there to create another beatles.
