Even worse:
The eighties were just painful in many ways.
And afterwards: "Yeah!! That snare sounds like totally nasty"."put some more [gated] reverb on that [snare]"
The eighties were just painful in many ways.

Under normal circumstances that's true, but these people are all about the same age as me.cptgone wrote:That's not necessarily racism. Hiphop still has the power to revolt older generations. I don't understand why though.Har wrote:Often heard from white middle-age yuppie-types I've tried to discuss music with:
"Oh, I'm VERY open-mided...I love ALL music! Well, except rap of course..."
It's the "of course" that always pisses me off: the insinuated "You know what I mean, fellow white man! Nudge-nudge, wink-wink!" barely disguised bigoted/racist mindset...
(then again, maybe this also means I'm really old

I was once the bass-player in a band that did some kind of 'floydish' stuff - the drummer studied music-sciences... - one day our singer, our guitar-player and me did a composition of mine - I played the keys on that ocassion... while we were rehearsing the song the drummer entered the room and went behind his set... so he played something like the second half of the song... - right at the end of the song (it was a ballad) after he actually already had finished playing he suddenly did some kind of short stupid drum-roll on the low tom and the snare... - it didn't fit there in the least so I looked irritated at him and asked: 'what was that supposed to be?' and he said something like 'that's a good pattern for the end of a ballad' and I replied: 'but it didn't fit in the end of this particular ballad at all!' which he then answered with 'people do it like this - it's very musical!' while looking at me with a clever smile as if he wanted to say: 'unlike you I've been studying this kind of stuff so I know what fits where!'

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I wish I had a dollar for every person claming to be a drummer I've met that were just air drummers...I dont know why but the 80's were full of them around here..."yeah I'm a drummer"...."oh really, what kind of kit do you have?"..."well I've never actually owned a drumset, but...yada, yada"

I get this one all the time from clients ...
"I listen to the radio and all I hear is crap. My stuff is way better, and all my friends agree."

a person referring to a piece by Download said,"that's just not music. Anyone could do that, it's all just totally random. there's no creative process going on there, etc, blah blah blah."
