f**k it, enough with this masquarade...I'm buying GR2.This month's Future Music (U.S. edition) mentions that AT2 will be released during the first quarter of 2006, so the most optimistic date seems to be Janaury (probably by NAMM?)

Before some of you do anything irrational,
consider the Vox Tonelab. I've had one for years and couldn't be less interested in AT2 or any other recent amp sim.
Why bother waiting when you know it can't possibly be better than tonelab? Especially the floorboard version pwns for its routing capabilities. And please, let's not bring POD XT in to this. Can you say "world of digital distortion and harshness"?
Some here even considered AT2 for live! Why oh why? have you totally forgotten about the world outside the VST hosts?

I must say that the H&K Tubeman is a great sounding piece of kit, another worthy alternative for those wondering which direction to go:

As I am using Hybrid Marshall live for reliability (had combo boogie previously and after having tubes broken two times in a row, sold it and got Marshall), I'm using H&K Tubeman in front of it to get more natural "tube" sound, and it works great with the amp. But as a direct recording tool, it has too much of a raw, "unfinished" sound to be useful or versatile enough. Combined with cab impulses to simulate boxes, it can work for some stuff, but I think that it is still somehow undefined. It is a strange product all together, "Recording station" that is actually better for live playing than recordingI must say that the H&K Tubeman is a great sounding piece of kit, another worthy alternative for those wondering which direction to go:
Vox ToneLab and Line 6 simulations are still better for going direct, I think.

Just recently I've tried a ToneLab and have been quite pleased.
Will be using the bigger amp model (based on the same engine) for some live show (better don't ask which one...) I'm gonna play through the next 2 months. Fortunately the management bought it, so I can try and see whether it's of any interest for my usualy live needs as well (for a tour with a fixed set and lots of soundchecking before the thing starts it certainly is).
And Kingston, as far as using a laptop live goes, I would never use it instead of a "true" amp, but I'd rather use it for something experimental (I'm planning on a little project next year, 3-4 dudes all with synced up laptops, playing both real instruments and doing computer tweakings in realtime).

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Where's Squids, I'd like to hear was he has to say about a release date

I think that Squids is uneasy with this whole situation. He has been telling us very soon for over 3 months now and still nothing. I am pretty sure that himself he genuinly beleived that it would be released much earlier since he actually have a working beta copy.
What would be nice though, is that if Squids can ask IKMM what is causing the delay on both the sound samples and the application itself, and post in this thread an honest answer, deprived of the usual optimistic statments.

sounds cool, if maybe a bit geeky, but cool nevertheless.Sascha Franck wrote:as far as using a laptop live goes, I would never use it instead of a "true" amp, but I'd rather use it for something experimental (I'm planning on a little project next year, 3-4 dudes all with synced up laptops, playing both real instruments and doing computer tweakings in realtime).

Vveeeerrrryyyy soooooon.
I know there are some important things being done right now with the plug-in and that is taking longer. I have no idea of when it will be completed but I am anxiously waiting just like you (well, except that I have a beta version to play with in the meantime). What I don't know is why the demo riffs are not posted yet. I heard some and they sound great! I am waiting until I can post some myself, which would be nice since I have been involved in this thread and would REALLY like to show you guys some cool stuff! Like "it goes to 11" on the Mesa or the character of the pedals.
As for people recommending other things (especially other than VST effects) well... of course! There are always other things to get for your guitar amp and effects needs! That hasn't changed in eons. By all means, get yourself some good Vox stuff, Marshall, vintage stomps and whatever you can afford. I am not letting go of any of MY gear either! But, when AT2 comes out it is just more flavors and other useful features that are great to have too! Great value for the money and if it has the sounds and features you're looking for then maybe you'll get it! If you don't get it out of principle because you didn't like the marketing or you didn't want to wait then that's your call. Most pro musicians I know don't care about that and just look at things when they are available to see if they are useful tools for their music, period. Nothing else REALLY matters.
That said, even hearing demo riffs (which WOULD be great, I agree and I really do think they ARE coming next week and I'd be surprised if they weren't) is not quite the same as going to a store or trade show and playing it yourself. So, when you get that opportunity I think it will make a huge difference. That and also hearing other users talk about it since there will be quite a few (considering there are even thousands of people that qualify for a free upgrade to AT2 from AT1 because they were smart to buy that recently
Look, NAMM is next month. So, if one was guessing when it might be finally here then in and around this time is a good guess I think. Before, just after.... who knows? But, events tend to happen around NAMM time in general in this industry.
