and don't forget that part that said $20 could get you several lunchesdzilizzi wrote:Part of me says any Kontakt library for under $20 is worth trying.
And then the other part reminds me how I never use the drums that came with Komplete 9U. I pretty much start with EZ drummer or AD2 and just go. I have a lot of half finished songs.
I do like a big kick drum though. Keeps me in time if it is not lost in the mix.

As a full-time orchestral string player, these strings are REALLY poor. The $1 Sonivox ones sound far superior to this.autodafe wrote:what about that Kirk Hunter "Concert Strings Bundle"?

No way. Then you didn't try the latest Concert Strings 3. I just got it and I also have the Sonivox. No comparison whatsoever. Kirk Hunter is miles ahead.veecheech wrote:As a full-time orchestral string player, these strings are REALLY poor. The Kontakt scripting on Kirk Hunter is another huge plus over the Sonivox crap.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Kirk Hunter deal..Looks like a good deal.
I usually don't do orchestral things, just do for pop use sometimes.
but this deal is quiet tempting.
I saw sound-n-gear-dot-com review on youtube, but it sounded like crap, but the latest version looks good.
I have NI session strings pro, i don't know i need this kirk hunter strings because there is no trial version.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The Sonivox comment was tongue in cheek. But I'm not impressed with the Kirk Hunter sounds. Really poor was an exaggeration, but there are some problems in tone quality, vibrato, sustained bow weight and speed, and in the YouTube video ensemble presets players don't even change notes together.Fleer wrote:No way. One thing to note though is that it's impossible to find a library that will sound completely real because there are so many important things in between the notes on the string family instruments, i.e. shifts, slides, bow speed with your shifts and slides, changing the string you're playing on, etc. These all depend on the context and style of the music.

I've had students who only had basic knowledge of orchestration be able to make realistic sounding pieces using EastWest Symphonic Orchestra. OTOH, ProjectSAM is probably the most playable library I've ever used, meaning I can play it live and sound very realistic without any kind of articulation switching.

My understanding is that the KH sale items are from CS 2, which were markedly different than in 3.Fleer wrote:No way. Then you didn't try the latest Concert Strings 3. Yeah, EastWest sounds very good. I have a good friend in my orchestra (violinist) who does film and video game scoring and swears by it. I'll have to check out ProjectSAM, thanks for the heads up!Uncle E wrote:I've had students who only had basic knowledge of orchestration be able to make realistic sounding pieces using EastWest Symphonic Orchestra. The bundle includes CS 1, 2 and 3.
A well-behaved signature.
