Korg updates its Legacy Collection with a new Arp Odyssey emulation

Triton is a big beastie, not everyone has space for one. Of course, you could always look for a used micro-X, it had the full Triton ROM plus hundreds of extra drum samples, all fully programmable. It even had a decent VSTi editor and dual arpeggiators. I was stupid to sell mine, it was an amazing thing.

Micro-X has limited FX compared to full Triton. There's Triton Rack, tho...

That kind of suggests missing or potentially inferior FX. There’s 89, which I assume are the same 89 as the regular Triton’s Master FX. There’s 102 effects in single sound mode on a Triton, but iirc pretty much all of that is just different bundles of the effects (like compressor and EQ in a single effect slot etc) so you can make the most of an insert slot.EvilDragon wrote:Micro-X has limited FX compared to full Triton.
Since you can chain FX in combi mode I don’t recall the 13 FX being of any loss. Likewise, in the case of MDE-X, you could use your DAW to chain “missing” FX, since it’s just different bundles of the same algos rather than an effect using completely different maths.
The FX count can matter for a Triton’s combi mode sounds, as the most complex Triton combi’s won’t be able to be recreated by the “cut down” versions like a Micro-X or Triton LE. That said, most combi’s could get away with the reduced slots, so the real loss is actually in sequencing mode, where creating multiple tracks would’ve made those missing FX slots very noticeable. Without sequencing mode the reduced FX slots are not as huge of a deal.
In a modern context I'd say the Triton is of most value as a quick sound source (Extreme or a rack loaded with EXB’s being the best bet), or to host the add-on MOSS board. Unfortunately, these days, the MOSS boards tend to go for the same price as a full Triton does 2nd hand..

Talking earlier about the Korg Odyssey, Behringer also introduces a BOdyssey.
Just like the Korg no preset memory
, but there is a sequencer, FX, and it's sounds great and beefy.
Build quality seems very nice.

Yes, and their Neutron (which is not a clone) seems lovely too.
Might get me a Behringer hardware unit (not sure which one yet; there is also a pro one....)

In combination with their Model-D by the patch bay, Neutron will be a blast, for sure.

A nice tutorial to make percussion sounds with the Korg ARP Odyssey. I've tried with the VST plugin, it works exactly the same way, like a charm.
Enjoy !

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. MicroX has only one insert effect, whereas regular Triton has 5. So there's much less routing possibility on MicroX, especially in combi mode.

Referring to Belgian beer, I guess he is an ex-countryman of mine.
Regarding the vst. Still somewhat in doubt regarding the benefits of hardware.
With seamless DAW integration, presets and as many instances as you computer will run, vst's are interesting. This guy makes his percussion hits on the hardware, then samples them and integrates the samples into a drum rack. Because the hardware doesn't integrate well into your daw.
Hardware 500 $ > 650 euro. Vst 69 $ > 57 euro. ??

Browsing through his Youtube channel, it seems that he is simply a recent hardware owner in addition to be a rather longer Propellerhead Reason user. And his channel is quite recent (two or three years), and he doesn't have a lot of hardware units. What is funny is that in several videos he confesses that he is not a very good keyboardist... but it is certainly true that he is very careful when he explores the controls of his synth panels and that he has also a nice state of mind. I discovered him a few days ago by his excellent explanations during , explanations which are among the best descriptions I have ever seen on a video, for example, rather close to the deep descriptions that we are used to watch by Marc Doty.
And... he seems to be also a Belgian beer lover, yes

I think I'll wait to see what comes with it. If they have a VST editor/librarian, I'll be all-in but if there is no way to store and recall patches, then it's just a useless toy and I won't be interested. The SH-101 clone has full MIDI implementation and this has both MIDI and USB, so hopefully they'll be able to store patches within DAW projects, if nothing else. I'd probably buy both if they can, and maybe a Pro-One as well.Stefken wrote:Might get me a Behringer hardware unit (not sure which one yet; there is also a pro one....)
